My sister recently wrote to So Delicious to ask about them removing carageenan. I thought you might be interested in their reply below.:dance:
We understand your concern, and we want to thank you for taking the time to reach out to us. We really do take comments from our fans very seriously. As you may know, there are many leading food and health organizations (including the World Health Organization and the National Organic Standards Board) that have reviewed and approved carrageenan for use in organic foods as recently as May 2012. However, our customers told us that they still had concerns about this ingredient, so about a year ago, our team started to proactively assessed the use of carrageenan in some of our products (keep in mind that we do not use it in all of our products – we have an extensive portfolio and many products do not contain carrageenan).
Suggestions from our fans propelled our desire to deliver a better product. And for the past year, we have been working very hard on finding alternate solutions and creating new recipes for our coconut milk beverage line to remove the carrageenan. It isn’t always easy work to find the right ingredients to rework our recipes and keep the same great taste that you expect from SO Delicious Dairy Free. We are committed to selecting top quality ingredients and delivering delicious dairy-free options to kitchen tables across the country.
We are very pleased with our progress and just this month started sampling our new carrageenan-free recipes with consumers and retailers to get their feedback on our improved coconut milk beverages. We will also be sampling these beverages with food reporters and critics to get their input. In order to replace the carrageenan, current inventories and the packaging of our products need to be managed. We are working on new packaging now, and if everything goes as estimated, we are aiming to have our improved coconut milk recipes in stores by the end of 2013!!!!
