Hi Guys,

Today is my 1 year stomaversary and stage 1 of reversal scheduled for 5th December. I will be changing from an end ileo to a loop ileo. My questions is - does the shape change from round to oval?
is it harder to use the dermacol seal if you can at all?
do you get more leaks?
does any stool make its way through the loop or does it all end up in the bag?

Cheers

I have a loop ileo. It is round and all stool goes into the bag. I do pass mucus all throughout the day from my bum, but no stool.

My daughter had a loop ileostomy and yes it is more oval than round. After two months it became rounder. You would have to cut them to size for it changes often. I found using the circles as a guide and drawing to circles one for the length and the other for the width cutting it to fit. We didn't have many leaks but flange only would last two days at the most. I never saw any stool in the toilet. Though I have heard it can happen, should be a rare occurrence, mostly mucous. Also the non outputting part of the ileo will also produce mucous. Which can be a nusence when changing the flange.

Out put will be more watery bc less intestines to travel through.

Mine's more oval than round but I've never had any leaks at all (knock on wood). I do measure each time and have noticed its rounding out more and becoming less ovaly. :)

I have a mucus fistula but its not with the stoma (proximal) its about 3 or 4 inches above the stoma. I just cover it with gauze (doesn't usually put out much). Some docs put the mucus fistula with the proximal stoma and you put the bag around them both. I actually have two separate holes in my abdomen.
