Hi all
First post here; hopefully I'm in the right category. So I just have a few questions that some of you may be able to answer. Not sure why I haven't though of posting here sooner.
-- Intro:
I've had perianal fistulas for 2 years now. I have 2 seton stitches in place which let the fistula drain (also had multiple fistulotomies so far). Tried many drugs but none had solved the issue. I'm on Remicade now (for a year, every 4 weeks) which seems to help but it feels like most other drugs, that it's just not enough to control the issue. In fact I'm slowly getting worse again as new abscess / fistula may be on the way.
I don't have crohn's for long (5 years now) but it's one helluva aggressive type from the start that does not back down. Not sure if related, but as far as I can remember, my body was turbo-resistant to anything I've taken in general (sleeping pills, pain meds, etc.) so I'm assuming the same thing is happening with the medical treatments I'm given (like Remicade).
I would also like to point out that, aside from these perianal fistula (which is by no means a minor issue here), I have absolutely no other problems whatsoever. No flareups, no cramps, no pain (unless there is an abscess formed), no diarrhea, etc. etc. etc. in years!
-- Main text:
Ok so, drugs aside, I'm thinking the problem may be in some aspect of me personally (some bad habbit or whatever). So during the past few years I've tried to help myself in some other ways.
I've experimented with food for starters. Found out few useful things, follow a strict diet (mainly based of SCD), and even though this is a plus in my book, food seems to have almost no impact on my fistula condition. So, not food
I've consumed cannabis oil for example which I consider to be excellent for anyone, but I cannot use it because my body rejects it (primarily with an skin allergy reaction).
Just so I can say I've tried it, I did some alternative medicine in which I didn't even believe in. But if any of you can claim that one in particular has helped you, I'll (re)consider it.
So moving on, I've tried researching a bit on psychology and crohn's. Thinking maybe I'm getting too much frustrated and that may be my major cause? I still have a bit of work to do here, but I'll give it a go. Although I feel that just like the food thing, this one might turn out to be rather pointless pursuit.
Semi-related to that, I'm also going to try and research some yoga aimed for crohn's. Maybe some breathing exercises from pranayama, etc.
I also saw some articles claming that Vitamin D has a connection with Crohn's. I tried vit D supplement once orally but my body did not take it well.
-- The big questions:
If you've dealt with some aggressive form of fistula / abscess, can you tell me what you think helped you the most? And if you can relate to anything mentioned in my post, a brief explanation on what you think, agree and disagree with would be very welcome
If you haven't dealt with such fistulas and you've read my post, do you perhaps have some advice in general, or can point out some other aspect I haven't considered?
Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
