Ok so here it is, I'm a bit scared about going back to work only because I was in hospital for 3 days last month due to mild flare, I am still in a flare but I'm starting to feel like it is getting worse :(, I can't take any more days off because I have already had 2 weeks off, I'm due to go back next week , I don't know what to do . My boss has been really good to me  which is nice, but if I tell her I think she might start to get fed up with me :eek2: :(, I work and train with horses so it is pretty hard work and very upbeat. I am really worried I might have to give it up after all these years of working with horses, but my mum wants me to carry on with what I am doing so I don't know what to do , I'm really emotional at the minute because as well as my Crohn's flare getting worse I'm also struggling with my breathing-I am due to have this seen to though, but I have know idea what could hit me next :pale: :runaway: :ack:

Has anyone been through this before?? What would you do?? Please help me :sign0085:
Sorry it's so long :)

I don't know if there is a single person on this forum who would be able to tell you whether or not you should go back to work, it's a very personal situation and will depend greatly upon your circumstances as an individual.

I spent a lot of time last year trying to soldier into work during a very severe flare up, I could barely sit at my desk properly without feeling incredibly queasy or feverish. I can't imagine what it must be like having to run around and do demanding physical work during a flare.

My recomendation would be if you are feeling that unwell you are concerned about going into work then it is a sign that you should be home resting. If your boss has been understanding so far then that is unlikely to change, I'm in baking at the moment and the company I work for have been extremely understanding and caring with the way my sick leave has been handled.

The most important thing is open dialogue with your boss at all times, be honest about what a flare up is and what you're doing to treat it and any other problems you have that are linked to your Crohns. This helped me at work as they've been able to make allowances for my condition.

I think the most important thing to think about right now is yourself, Making sure you're happy and healthy and getting the proper treatment. Then tackle the world of work!

Hello horselover!!

I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. I have been there and afraid to go back to work. My bosses have been understanding but I am also in a career (paralegal) where it is important for me to be present and make sure things are being taken care of and deadlines are being met for pressing legal matters. crohn's prevents me from being present to do this and also from being focused during a job that requires you to be detailed and accurate.

Is there some other role you could play in the care taking of horses? I'm going to tag pasobuff. She owns horses herself maybe she can chime in and help you out a bit.

I hope you get everything sorted out and that your flare calms down very soon.

May I ask how old you are?

I had and have these dilemmas going to school, sometimes I just can't make it. I would do what makes you happy..what would make you most comfortable, if you can't make it then you can't, if you can you can, it's out of your control.

Hi thanks you guys, It's really difficult because my boss doesn't even know what Crohn's is only until I started working there and ended up going to hospital because of the flare, I don't think she really understands when I need to go then I need to go, because of my work I'm constantly running around doing jobs, I don't really get very many breaks which is really hard when it does flare and when I can't breath, I feel awful  I really don't know what else to do I absolutely love horses and I don't think there is anything else I'd rather do, I might just have to push myself to keep going, when I did that I think they overworked me and I over did it.
I don't think that my boss is understanding enough because I can't afford to have any more time off because of the time of year it is they are really busy nearly all the time, she said to me she thinks they can make any allowances for this condition. I very rarely open out to anyone about what's going on to anyone I find it really hard.

Hey there HorseLover!!..... Do make sure you have a good talk with your employer about the need to be able to get to the bathroom etc...I know that having to worry about things can make the situation worse.

What type of work are you doing with the horses? Are you a stable hand, groom etc? Trust me, I understand horses are not always as understanding as people - they won't understand why you have to 'run away'.....

Take care of YOURSELF - remember, if you don't, things will only tend to be worse in the long run.

Is it possible to start back to work slowly? Work either some shorter days or only a few days a week to get back into the swing of things? That might help...

I'm a working student training towards my BHS exams, she did mention that I could work 3 full days to start off with which is quite nice, but after that it's straight back into 5 full days a week :(
