Hi everyone! Was just wondering if anyone out there experienced sciatic nerve pain - lower back down to ankle or foot. I get remicade infusions every 7 weeks along with 500 mg of pentasa. I wasn't sure if it is an overall crohns thing or had to do with my meds or wasn't related at all. Any input would be appreciated!

Hi and welcome.

Ivre had that off and on over the years. Before remicade. I never thought that pain was crohns related. Now I'm wondering. Infested to see what others say.

I wouldn't think it was Crohn's related. I guess just about anything could be, but generally sciatic pain would be more from a back-related injury, even a strain, of some sort.

I had one episode of it during early pregnancy, it hasn't happened since. I went to my doctors as I have a neuro condition as well as Crohn's, but the dr felt it was just 'one of those things' or preg related rather than being related to either condition.

In order to drain an abscess caused by a fistula, the tube stuck in my side over a needle hit that nerve. Took not one but two morphine shots to peel me off the machine they were using to monitor where the needle was going. Eventually after three weeks, they pulled the drain out and were able to perform a couple of surgeries. And I was able to sleep again.

I really feel sorry for anyone who has to put up with Crohn's and Sciatic nerve pain.

The only thing that I think of that might worth bringing up is that we are prone to sacroiliitis which can sometimes result in symptoms that are closely related to those of sciatic nerve pain.

Thanks for the mention on sacroilitis Psycho. I think I had this about 3 years ago thinking it was sciatica and a flu bug at the same time. I think it does explain a lot about how it resolved. It was extremely painful, and the fever I got with it was something else. Just about comparable to a good set of night sweats.

I had pain for a little over one week last year (before DX with Crohns), I did some exercises I found on youtube and moved it back into place and haven't had any problems since. I don't think it's Crohn's related..

I agree with 2th Fairy. Sciatic pain is completely related to back injury or ailments. It is not much affected by Crohn's disease.

I have chronic sciatica, and my primary said it very well could be linked in some way to my chronic prostatitis ( CPPS is what they are calling it now ), and I am also on my way down the road to being diagnosed with a IBD. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it could somehow link to that as well.

Or to be even more accurate, I wouldn't be surprised if later on my primary told me that my CPPS could be linked to the IBD, and from there that would wind up linking to the sciatica.

Just seems odd that right after the first major issue developed, these other two sprouted up as well. I know for a fact my RLS is somehow related to the three as well, since I never had it before.

Also seems odd how a lot that have a IBD have migraines as well. Every single one of those is listed as a type of or cause of neuropathic pain, and all besides RLS get some of the same meds.
