Hi all,
I had a seton put in a month & a half ago. It has since become virtually painless except that I noticed in the shower that it has hardened noticeably. Is this normal? Is this scar tissue or possibly another abscess? It doesn't hurt to touch or sit... it is a little sensitive now that I've been pushing on it, of course.. Go figure. Please let me know what your experiences have been.

Stay healthy & happy all! :ycool:

Hi Vanessa,

The external opening of my fistula is also quite hard. Based on the conversations that I've had with my Surgeons, this is scar tissue. I've lived with a seton for the last 5/6 years and the current one has been in place for nearly 18 months.

If this worries you have a word with your Doctor or specialist Nurse and let them set your mind at rest.

Wishing you well.

Mark

Hey Vanessa - most likely scar tissue - I've had one for 8 months and the same thing is around mine. Like Mark - ask your doctor - but unless it hurts - probably ok. :)

I was actually just going to make a post about this. I had an abscess and had surgery in December 2011. Today, although I'm still healing from the large incision they made I'm doing really well and healing nice. I did notice though that it is quite hard around it. Its skin, but its quite firm to push on. No pain or anything, but I wondered if it was unusual.

If I can find any info I will share it with you.
