Hi,

I've had a seton in place for the last five months to take care of a fistula. I'm due to have it removed on Weds (28th) and I was wondering what peoples experiences were with this. When I had it put in place, I couldn’t walk or sit down for around a month due to infection. In fact for the last five months I haven’t felt fully ‘normal’. I’m looking forward to getting this thing out and I’m just looking for reassurances that the removal of the seton is easy.

Thanks in advance,

James

ive had 2-3 setons in place for multiple fistulas at once. im fairly sure that the removal is quick and easy. just snip the thread and it slides out.
are you getting put under for the procedure?
ive never had the removal done by itself, always other things inserted at the same time, so ive always been under.

Yeah its a general anaesthetic.

When I had it put in, I was in day surgery as an out-patient but this time im a in a ward as an in-patient.

Strange.

hmm. that is strange. i dont really know!
sorry to be of not much help!
maybe call your doc and ask the questions. itd be worth it to ask what the removal will be like.

Yes I have had several but I was never put out.
Sat my butt sideways and th Dr. snipped the thread and pulled it threw.
It did not hurt but what hurt like hell was him lancing the fistulae first
then putting the seaton threw.OUCH But that how they did my first 1
about 10-15 yrs ago. To this day I am still dealing with 3

You will not feel a thing with laughing gas or general so they say
Sometimes they will ask you when you get there if you really do
want general or without.

Goodluck
