Had loose seton put in my fistula (2) yesterday. I was told by the nurse that I should not do Sitz bath at all even after 48 hours after surgery. I have to clean the area by washing it with soap and water, then pat dry. No sitz bath at all. Does it sound right? Does anyone did a sitz bath with a loose seton? Yesterday felt okay, but it is shocking to see 4 loose threads hanging your butt and it really hurts when you sit because it kind of poke all around. Any tips to make this setons more manageable? Thanks.

My CRS recommended that I do frequent sitz baths after both times that she put a seton in my fistula. Each day got easier and easier to deal with the seton with the swelling going down. I sat on an ice pad too. I would call you CRS and check on the sitz baths, it doesn't make any sense to me.

I am scheduled for seton placement and fistulotomy on December 17th and have already been told that's where I'll be hanging out at least for the rest of that week. Seems very odd to me that they would recommend against - I would also ask again.

Yes, the sitz bath is my favorite hang out right now. I hope there is no such thing as over doing it. I am doing sitz bath 4 to 5 times a day for 10 to 15 minutes each. I have 2 setons inserted with 4 dangling rubber bands about 2 inches in length each. Cleaning is such a challenge and sitz bath is doing a great job in addition to the relief. Thank you guys for sharing your experiences.
