My husband was newly diagnosed with crohns in February of this yr. after having a colonoscopy things quickly escalated and he ended up with an abscess. He had it drained the. Had surgery this past May. We're so afraid of trying meds but even more so to leave it. My question is this... He asked for a colonoscopy and its scheduled this fri. We're scared tho that it could cause him problems the probing etc. we want to know if his disease is back and damaging tho. Not sure what to do. We don't want to set him up for problems as he's been doing better. Any thoughts are appreciated Ty

I don't think that a colonoscopy would hurt anything, as your husband could stay on the same treatment that is helping if you made that decision, regardless of the findings of the colonoscopy. However, a colonoscopy could find recurrent, new, or previously/currently managed problems, that the dr. could help resolve or could show that his Crohns is not progressing and he is doing well on his current treatments. I think that those with Crohns know their bodies and when we ask for a colonoscopy, there is usually something concerning that could be resolved or addressed, at least in my opinion.

I think getting scoped would be a good idea too. It really is the best way for the doctor to know what's going on. Silent inflammation (no symptoms) can cause problems if it is interested or undertreated.

Sending you both my support.

hi i am due one after 18mth since ileostomy and 7 mth since reversal of it,all has been great so far ,but i worry that the scope may cause me issues , but im sure it wont cause as much trouble as if my crohns flares up again ,and it's not spotted in time to get it under control, that fear far out weighs the scope one by miles.. hope this helps ,best wishes..

Just had one done last thur. Took out 8 polyps. Get biopsies back in 2 weeks. By all means if you think you need one, then you most likely do.

I would also vote for the "go for it". I would think it was coincidence in the first case, and probably anything that happened was already going to happen. There are chances of injury in every surgery that is out there, but they are pretty small overall for the scopes. Get it done.

Ty everyone for your opinions it's been very helpful! I think he will get it done but maybe in 3-4 more months. It's only been four months since his surgery. Wishing everyone good health and hugs
