I have had Crohns since 2002 and have been on an up and down rollercoaster since. I have been lucky with no surgeries except gallbladder surgery. But the last couple of months have been painful. I vomit atleast 3-4 times a week, stomach pain and bloating, extreme exhaustion, dehydration. I haven't seen my GI lately because he has a HORRIBLE bedside manner to him and only wants me on steriods with no other options (i have the worst reaction to prednisone). I need to find a new doctor. But last night i have felt so nauseous that I couldn't sleep. I keep throwing up and cant keep anything down, not even water. Should i go to the ER or do you think they will only want me to see my Gi? I feel so sick

The general rule on the forum is, if you're questioning whether to go to the ER, just go! If it's bad enough that you're considering going in, then it's bad enough that you should go in. At the very least they should be able to give you something for the nausea and some IV fluids. You can also ask them about other meds - an elemental diet (special liquid only diet that's designed to be digested when you can't digest much of anything else) might be helpful in your situation while you're waiting for meds to kick in, too.

For what it's worth, last year I flared up badly, lost 17 lbs in a month, was having diarrhea 20+ times a day and couldn't digest any food. I had to go to the ER 3 times in one week for IV fluids, and on the 3rd visit they decided to admit me, which ended up being very beneficial as I did get to go on a liquid elemental diet at that time. So in my experience, it may take a few visits, but it should be helpful. If I were you, I'd also get a referral to a new GI doc right away too. Good luck and keep us posted on if you go to the ER.

I would go to the ER of an hospital with a good IBD team first of all to check your condition, do blood work, get a liquid diet in addition to solid food to got back strenght and get rehydrated, and obtain as soon as possible an appointment with them. Ideally you should start a long term medication like immunosuppressants or biologic that make you stay healthy and out of prednisone. Steroids can't be a long term solution or used as your actual doctor suggest in my opinion.

Hope you feel better soon. let us know how the situation evolve.
