Hello everyone,

Well my story starts off when I was around 12 years old. During the time I would have quite a bit of rectal bleeding and ending up going in for a colonoscopy. They found nothing and just told me to watch my diet or something (cant really remember to well). Anyways, symptoms never really stopped (occasionally would get rectal bleeding) until finally last year, May. I went in and saw my brothers doctor (he was diagnosed with chrons when he was 18 as well and is 3 years older then myself). So they ran there tests and sure enough I have it in my illietum (forgive the mis-spelling) and apparently i have some U.C. in my rectum (which apparently is rare.. )

Well as soon as I was officially diagnosed (bearum study). I was placed (last june) on a high dose of predisone. I should note before the high dose of predisone i had a colonsocopy done and they saw bumpy things which after the high dose of predisone (30 days?) i had another colonsocopy which showed a vast improvement. However, when I was on predisone I had a massive acne breakout.. It was horrendous as well as a 10 lb weight gain.

Now Fast forward to a few weeks ago (June 2008). I am still having signs of blood in stool and occasionally my stomach feels like its on fire. So I am given a choice:

A) Go back on a high dose of predisone WITH 6-MP to try and keep my symptoms in relapse.

OR

B) Go on Remicade

My problem with A) is that I REALLY dont want to have the massive achne break like i did last time.. I can't explain how bad it iwas .. but it was bad. Had to get on acne meds for months which eventually cleared up most of it...

So my question is, given the choice which of these would you go for... AND which is more safe.

Thank You. Also I hate a bit last notice but I am supposed to tell my doc tomorrow which one I choose @_@. So any and all help would be GREATLY appericated.

Welcome and hello!

I would say Remicade... but it really should be a personal decision. The pred and 6mp did nothing for me except cause me to gain a BUNCH of weight and lose my hair. Plus if you start pred again, you will have to go through the tapering schedule. Having said that, neither choices are safer than the others. They all have contraindictions and warnings. I will say that after one Remicade infusion, I was straight into remission. Although each drug works differently with each different person.

Pred helped me out a lot but I don't think 6mp really helped me much. I'm on Remicade and it has helped me out a lot. The problem though is that if you go off of Remicade then your body may build antibodies against it so it may be useless. Like Katiesue said neither are much safer. Best of luck. Search this site and you will find a lot of info on all three drugs.

Also, I forgot to welcome you to the forum. So welcome, no one bites.lol
