Hi,
I've had crohn's disease of the ilium for 18 years now. I'm on prednisone, humira, pentasa and zofran. Over the years my symptoms have gone through many changes. Most recently, I now have almost constant nausea. My doctor gave me zofran but it doesn't seem to last very long. In the past, when I had nausea it would mean that I had problems passing stools. However, I'm able to go to the bathroom so I'm not sure why I have nausea now. Any ideas out there of what I can try? I'm gonna make an appointment with my doctor but he's pretty busy and hard to get into see.

Many people, including a very good friend of mine who has Crohn's, get good nausea relief from marijuana. I don't know where you live, but if it's in one of the locations where MMJ is available, you might give it a try.

This Wikipedia article has some good information on a wide range of antiemetics (anti nausea/vomiting drugs) with info on most types currently available http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antiemetic

Hope you feel better soon :)

Hi CrohnsMonkey, :bigwave:

Good to see you here. From reading other posts there are quite a few recommendations for an OTC medication called Gravol or ginger for nausea. Seems many peeps here have had success with one or the other. Good luck and keep us posted on how you go. Welcome aboard!

Take care, :)
Dusty

Hmm, who knows what is causing the sudden nausea - have your meds ever been harsh on your stomach before? Have you experimented taking them at different times/with food/etc?

I've had success with Prilosec for nausea when Aciphex (what I'm on for that and reflux) didn't cut it. Tums or something similar might be worth a shot. Marijuana will certainly take care of nausea.

Hi effdee and welcome to the Crohn's Forum.
I have nausea with my Crohn's...whether from the meds or the Crohn's itself..
but I have managed so far with the use of Gravol, which is over the counter and
also flat ginger ale.

Hope it clears up for you soon~Nancy

Dear Crohn's Monkey,
Isn't feeling like you could hurl any minute the worst! I never really had that until recently either. Flat coke seems to help in the short term but marijuana does also work for some. I know that 32 states allow marijuana for Crohn's. N.J. is one of them.

Good luck and keep us posted. I am very interested as it seems you and I are traveling down a closely related path.

Well, first of all I would like to thank everyone for responding to my post. It's nice to hear from people that have had similar experiences. :)
I have tried ginger based products to help with nausea however they have all given me extreme heartburn. I'm even on prevacid and they still give me heart burn. :(
I would like to try marijuana, which is legal in my state of Michigan, however I'm not sure how to actually get it. I've just e-mailed a couple of medical marijuana sites, after reading these posts, so hopefully I can get that soon and get some relief. Thanks again for all of the support. :D

Welcome Crohnsmonkey!

It's so weird how this disease can change on you after years of having the same symptoms. For me, it was years of the big D interrupting my life, and then just last year it switched to constipation that has put me in the hospital several times and eventually made me need surgery. What??? I always was jealous of the people who had to deal with Constipation but didn't have the urgency that comes with D. Ironic that it was C that ended up being life threatening for me.

Any way, hope you get your symptoms under control. I'm glad you found us. You will get lots of good advice and support here. :)

Awe Crohns Monkey...I am sorry to hear you are nauseaus! That really is hard to live through...I'm glad you found us...Good luck! Sue

I too am Nauseas every day, day in day out, It´s not a quality of life I want to live with.

I have stopped all medication (which worked great on my UC) and I am back in Hospital next week for more blood top up and to try new tablets. At this moment in time I am not bleeding and my Colitis is great, it´s the side effects that are making me so ill.

For me the Nausea is worse than the UC, I don´t want food or drink even the thought of water makes me sick.

Hope you get it sorted and I hope I find some answers to stop it too.

All the best

Is Missouri one of those states?

No clue. Guess you could google it. I will see what I can find out.
I just read somewhere that 32 states allowed it. Didn't bother reading all the way as I hate the way it makes me paranoid or did years ago.
