I gave my daughter the methotrexate shot yesterday morning. She did fine, there was no reaction to it yesterday. Today, she is experiencing hot flashes and some chest pains. Her blood pressure was 132/98. It has come down to 122/88. Has anyone else experienced this while giving your child shots? I'm currently waiting for the on call doctor to give me a call back.

Hmmm never had that here with MTX. It's not really a typical MTX side effect - I'm glad you called the on-call doctor. Let us know what the doc says.

Not here either.

Any word yet from the doc?
The on call doctor called back stating the chest pain could be a result of reflux since she was not experiencing pain while breathing. She's had the hot flashes before after the shot. What was different this week was she didn't drink a lot of water yesterday. She is complaining of discomfort in her bottom. I'm feeling lost with this illness. I want to take it all away and I can't.

If the bottom pain is from diarrhea or even just going to the bathroom a lot, Desitin or Calmoseptine are good barrier creams.

Glad the chest pain wasn't anything serious.

Hang in there - the first year is the hardest. You will find the right combination of meds for her and it will get better.

My daughter also was having some chest pain at night a few months ago that turned out to be reflux. A chewable antacid helped each time, and it also helped to prop up the head of her bed. She only had the pain for a few days, and hasn't had it since. We've kept the bed propped just in case.

She also gets night sweats when she's flaring--it's one of her most reliable indicators of a flare. When she's in remission, the night sweats go away.
