I started Aza 50 mg for 2 weeks, then my doctor increased the dosage to 150 mg about 4 days ago. I noticed the last two days the whites of my eyes are bloodshot. Is that a common side effect? I also had some muscle pain as well, but that seems better today.

I didn't see anything mentioned about eyes for Aza but I suppose its possible. Have you tried anything like Visine to see if that helps?

Muscle pain is listed as a side effect though. If it continues I'd tell your GI about both.

I woke up this morning and my eyes are more bloodshot than ever the whites of my eyes are so inflamed they even hurt. I don't have allergies, and I've only noticed this after the high dosage. I've also noticed random muscle pain, and loss of appetite due to nausea. It's Saturday, and can't reach my doctor till monday. What should I do?

Call your pharmacist. They know a lot about drug interactions and side effects. If they say go to the ER, then go. If you get no help from the pharmacist then maybe try an emergency clinic. No help there, then go to the ER.

I called the GI doctor on call, and it just happened to be my doc! So he said to go back to 50 mg of AZA. :thumright:

So my Doc calls me back a day later and asks how I was on the lower dose, I told him I stopped all together becasue I felt so nauseated. He said to come in for another blood test tomorrow and stop the Aza for now. Can I still get Remicade infusions without Aza? I thought Aza was to prevent the antibodies from attacking the Remicade...

I've heard people on the forum mention that they are only taking Remicade. Keep us posted. :)
