Hi everyone,
About 5 years ago I developed a mole that was concerning me, my family dr told me it was fine, I finally went to a dermotologist in January and he said it was fine and very rarely becomes anything to worry about. My dentist measures it also every time I go to the dentist and will let me know if it grows. The dermotologist never told me to come back regularly. Just said to come back if it changes. But, with taking humira and Imuran and having slight increase risk of skin cancer, I would feel better if the dermotologist looked at it once per year. Should I ask my GI about this? Because it's the crohns meds making me worry about skin cancer risk? Or just make another appt with the dermotologist and ask him?
Does anyone else get a once per year check up at a dermotologist?

Hi. I asked my dermatologist the same thing regarding a mole. He said mine was fine. Changes would be noticeable. I'd suggest taking a picture of it beside a small ruler with milimetres on it. Check every 3-6 months to see if its growing. See the doctor if you're concerned.

Ok, sounds good. I don't want to go to the dr if it's not necessary, I spend enough time away from work with crohns appointments and flare ups, so i will keep an eye on it and measure it. It's on my lip and so I wear lip sunscreen everyday.

Is it a pretty flat mole or one of the really big raised ones? I have a lot of the big nasty ones and my doctor said those aren't the ones that you need to watch
They're rarely cancerous. I've had a few removed. If it concerns you you could just have it removed.

It's flat and on the inside of my lip. The dr said I could have it removed but only for appearance reasons and then I would have to pay for it.

When I saw the dermotologist he didn't seem concerned at all and said I'm not at high risk for melanoma. He did a full body mole check.

How old were you when you developed the mole?

The second mole I had removed was removed because I told the gp it was a new mole. I was in my late 30 at the time. According in the gp it standard practice to remove all new moles.
