Hi Does anyone know what skin lesions in Crohn's disease look like? Caitlyn has a weird thing on her arm. It is reddened and has a raised area. She says it hurts. It almost looks like an odd mosquito bite.

Kimmidwife,

My skin lesions were strawberry in color, the biggest being about the size of a quarter. They weren't raised, but were pretty numerous, mainly on my legs. The vast majority were small, and it kind of looked splotchy on my lower legs. I also has a lot of edema in my legs and arms.

does it look like eczema, im pretty clueless about this but my son had eczema ( was treated as eczema since he was a baby) since he started meds its disappeared. so im wondering now if its to do with crohns. few month ago he had blotchy purpley marks on his back and neck, got it checked out and they werent overly concerned and that disapperared too? strange. x

No eczema. Mine was originally diagnosed as small and medium vessel vasculitus; then after Crohn's disgnosis, it was thought to be an external manifestation of the Crohn's. I also had a lot of edema. No itching or anything, but the swelling caused alot of pain. Prednisone knocked that out. No more strawberry spots or swelling.

interesting you would bring this up--my daughter has some mosquito bite looking lesions all over her left thigh. Very weird, have been there a month. Some are actually a little pus filled. Keep having to tell her not to pick at them. Saw the primary care who referred us to a dermatologist. She is currently on Prednisone, weaning down, as she just started Remicade. These came up the week before her 1st Remicade.

Switalski,
They are strawberry in color. Only very slightly raised and a little smaller then a quarter. She has one on the arm and a few on her legs.

If it's helpful. . . . . wen went to the dermatologist today, and Emily's is a staph infection apparently. They are treating it as that and took a culture. I noticed Caitlyn is also on prednisone, and the doc mentioned this often will come up with a lowered immune system.

Hi all,

i think the thing Caitlyn has is Erythema nodosum. It has faded a little but has a hard lump under the skin. We have not been back to see her doctor yet.
