So last Thursday my Remi went wrong, and my Dr. decided it wasnt worth the benifits to continue. His new plan is to do a small bowel series on January 3rd to see what the damage is. Assuming that the scar tissue doesnt cover my intire small intestine he would like a resection.

Im not sure what a small bowel series intales but if you have had one i would like to know what to expect. && even better if you had a resection what are your thoughts on that? how long is recovery? i work two jobs and i have a 3 year old so i need to be back on my feet asap i had my gal bladder removed a couple years ago and i bounced back quickly but i have a feeling this may take a little longer. i read some horor storied about the resection yesterday so some positive things would be nice but be honest.

Too bad it will be January in a couple days or this surgery would be picked up my BCBS... i guess ill have to bite the bullet on this one.

Hey there. Sorry to hear the Remi went wrong :-( The SBFT is not quite as invasive as the colonoscopy. You'll probably have to fast from the night before to the time of the test. Then just before you have to drink a couple of cups of barium contrast. Tbh, that's probably the worst part as it's a bit thick and chalky. They then take a series of X-rays every 20 mins or so. Should take about an hour if they are only looking at the small bowel.
Can't help with the resection but if you pop over to the Surgery subforum, you should get some info there.
Hope it goes OK and that the prognosis is an optimistic one.

last time i had to drink that stuff for both the CT and the Colonoscopy it didnt go over so well so thats the part im worried most about. It tastes horrible = makes me vomit then the stress of needing to get it down gives me D its a lose lose ... thank you though for some insite

The barium stuff is nasty, but its not horrible. I chugged the barium and just got it done quickly... that way i didn't have to torture myself. i did keep some Zofran with me and popped one right after so I didn't throw the barium up. It will be okay!

As far as the resection goes... I'm getting mine next thursday, so I don't really have any advice for you there, but there are many other people here that do know. I'm working two jobs and have an almost 9 month old. I know how you feel about needing to get back into the game quickly.
