Hello!

I've developed these dry patches of skin on my face that doesn't really go away with an exfoliant. Also with this are small specs of red spots on my face that are also dry and peel but are still rough after exfoliating and using a nice moisturizer.

I don't think it's psoriasis or eczema as it doesn't really fit the description. My natural doctor thinks it actually might be a nutritional or vitamin/mineral deficiency of some sort. I have noticed that when I am taking my good food-based vitamins every day like a good girl, that the symptoms will go away temporarily until I forget to take them again.

What do you think? Thanks for any help!

If any of yours are isolated spots that you can keep close track of do so.
IF they repeatedly flake or peel off from the EXACT same area on an apparent schedule, such as every few days or once a week there's a good chance that it may be a something a DERMATOLOGIST should look at.

It may be a coincidence that anything you're eating (or not eating), the medications/supplements you're taking (or not taking) or how you're treating the skin surface seems to affect them.

Some precancerous skin changes are similar to what you've described, and if so, catching this early is the best way to keep it from becoming more serious-and to treat it without leaving lasting evidence of teatment. Depending on what exactly you mean by "...are still rough after exfoliating and using a nice moisturizer"an exfoliant" could mean a lower level of the skin is involved.

An additional clue would be if the peeling continues to repeat like clockwork, irregardless of the amount of time that you've been recently spending out of doors.

when I was a kid, I had pretty bad eczema on elbows and ankles. When i was a teen, the eczema subsided, but after that I have always dealt with some minor dermatoses scalp issues or some very minor spooting in the face which were not the same as eczema (really milder issues) (close to eyebrows, nose or eye). My mom got similar symptoms. They go on and off. The only thing that touches my face since a couple of years is water and organic coconut oil as a moisturizer. I now refuse any chemicals. It works great and I dont have any issues in my face since a long time now. For my scalp I try the natural shampoo approach but that is not as effective as for my face. I still have to use head n shoulders about once every 2 weeks. Come to think of it, it gives me the idea to try massaging my scalp with coconut oil before next shampoos. I wish I can get rid of that head n shoulders.

I know that developing dry skin can be a side effect of Crohn's. But of course your issue could also be many other things. Even as something as simple as changing your washing powder and the residue on towels that you use on your face. I find that if I have lots of inflammation at times of UC flares; then I get dried skin patches. Last year during a flare I had a red blotch appear on my neck which was embarrassing as it looked like a love bite. I increased my nutrition and started to use a calendula and rose otto cream on it and the combination of natural diet and natural skin care products made it go away.

Interesting Clark..I've also just developed a dry, very red, itchy, scaly patch on the left side of my chin. I've been moisturizing to try to minimize the dryness. Last night I tried Desitin Cream & remarkably that did take away the redness & itchiness. It is a very drying cream though & tonight I'm going to try to moisturize the remaining dry, rough area. I've had mild rosacea in the past & I'm wondering if it may be rosacea. Perhaps it's just a change with the seasonal cold weather : )
