Sometimes, while going to the bathroom my wife notices a smell. I think because of my sinuses I can't smell it. Is this a sign the Crohns Disease is active?

What kind of a smell is it specifically? I know that with certain things, like c diff, that there's a particular smell (a friend of mine who works in a hospital has described c diff as smelling like "sweet and sour chicken that's gone rancid"). You might want to have your doctor do some stool tests just to check for infection.

There are certain smells that I do notice. Strangely enough, there was one about 10 years ago that made me flashback to when I was about 5 years old and having what was likely my first crohn's attack. I had actually forgotten about being sick as a child until that smell came back. Cat has a point - if it isn't a normal odour for you and you don't have an obvious dietary reason, it means that your body is processing differently for some reason. Something has changed, and it is probably worth looking into.

is it bloody? that stinks more than usual.
I invested in a Toto Washlet (model S350e) that has a air deodorizer built in (among many, many other benefits) - you can barely even smell anything no matter how big or diseased the BM is, hahaha.
