If you have crohns and smoke cigarettes then you need to stop smoking cigarettes. The evidence is bulletproof, smoking worsens the disease.

There are other things you can do to help your disease.
-cut down on sugar and preferrably avoid all types of processed sugars
-cut down on fried foods and trans fats
-get some exercise and get some sunshine = vitamin D
- take a high quality animal based omega 3 fat supplement like krill oil
- if your crohns is active, avoid grains especially gluten
- avoid artificial sweeteners
- get plenty of beneficial bacteria from fermented foods or probiotics, you can expect the benefits to show after taking them for 8 weeks.
- natural antiflammatory agents Turmeric, curcumin and boswellia have also been shown to have great effects on people with crohns as have some catus plants, noted for their anti-inflammatory properties.
- over 90% of people with crohns have the mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis present in their body, compared to 20% in healthy people...this bacteria comes from unhealthy cows milk.
- coconut oil is very good for healing the digestive tract, try cooking with it instead of olive and vegetable oils.
- drink water with bacteria in it. Don't drink tap water that is nuked of all its goodness.

What was most interesting is the 'mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis' bacteria from cow's milk. I drank 1-2L of milk daily for a couple years.

Everything you posted is sage advice. Of the recommendations I feel omega 3 is the most important due to its relationship with CB1 receptors and endogenous cannabinoids.

Great post and I hope that it can inform many more who are suffering.

I have found adding chia seeds to diet has helped. It has more omegas than salmon and fiber to boot! Make sure you chew them. I also drink in Synergy drink....I agree with other comments!

yeah chia seeds i agree mickey...they buff out the poo too i rekon.

I have them occasionally, but i take psyillium husks most days...since i had the third surgery i think i need the psyillium to soak up the bile in the large bowel....i know there is that qestran stuff but i dont like the taste.

thanks volcano and mickey, one tries to help now that one feels well again....i think if you have been to deaths door and you survived, you would be pretty ignorant not to spend 5 minutes or half and hour a day helping others....or trying to help others who are battling what you battled.
