We just arrived at my parents house for the weekend. My dad, who never got his flu shot even tho I asked several times nicely, comes in from spending the day at his sister's house which burned down last night. He was out digging in the rubble with her. He was about to do "knuckles" with DS so I stopped him and asked him to wash his hands first. He refused!! I just about exploded. :ymad: Thankfully DS lightened the moment with a goofy wave instead.

And then... my dad starts cooking dinner and STILL hasn't washed his hands!

This is going to be the longest weekend ever.

My mom also told me that he's never read a single Caringbridge entry. It's his grandson for goodness sake. :ymad:

What do you do with people like this?? Our relationship is tense already and I'm usually the one who steps back, but my momma bear is in full fury right now. :ymad:

During Brian's last bad flare my dad asked me if I've ever tried Pepto Bismol. I was stunned. He knows what we've been thru the past 2 years. He thinks its as easy as Pepto Bismol?! But I think he just wants it to be easy in his mind. He's 80 and old school. He's mentioned how no kids had illnesses or allergies when he was a kid and the kids in my son's generation have so much. I said jokingly, 'Its from all the things your generation did!"
So i just remember that they are from a different Era. Sounds like your son is wise on how to handle it. Just keep reminding your dad :)
Hugs!!

MEN ARE FROM MARS ......AND WOMEN ARE FROM VENUS... there's never a truer saying.
:)

I can so relate to family frustrations-my own mother suggested that perhaps it was something I ate when I was pregnant that caused my son's Crohn's. I just agreed that that was likely the case... but I was screaming on the inside. I haven't really figured out how to handle situations like this, except to just grin and bear it... and don't visit too often. Hang in there!

Any ones father in law ever offered your child a jam filled sugar coated donut whilst on een?????? Tell me about angry ! !!!

:ymad:OK, apparently this is a venting thread.:ymad:

:ybatty:How about the parent-in-laws offer your kids sugar cookies knowing they have ALL the allergens that make both your kids sick.
Then when you say no, they look at you like your depriving your kids.:yfaint:

All I want for Christmas Day is two health(ish) kids.

Oh, and don't even get me started on the gluten free thing. My mom at least tries to understand, but my dad has no clue - by choice, it seems. He just offerd DS a gooey, sprinkle covered donut. Thank goodness I brought gluten free ones for him instead.

And now we're snowed in to boot. They got a good 6" last night... we're stuck :(

My in-laws think it's fine if we just have our son eat gluten free desserts and have gluten in everything else  My son is allergic to dairy and they think I'm making that up :ybatty: They are always offering him icecream to fatten him up.
