I am so d#$m mad at my insurance company. I had gone through a Sleep Apnea testing back in September and today I recieved a statement from the insurance company stating they will not pay because "This Type of Service Requires Verification of Medical Necessity."

I was given a perscription for this from my GP and it was also backed by my Cardialogist. I have severe sleep apnea and I quit breathing up to 17 times an hour and that doesn't include all the times I sit up or do strange things in my sleep. The breathing problem alone is life threatening and by using the Cpac at night very well could be saving me from another heart attack. I know that others in the company I work for have went through the study and that the insurance is covering it so why not me?

My wife will call them come Monday and get thing straightened out. It just gets so frustrating having to deal with them.

Did they tell you the longest time without breathing? Mine was 88 secs. I don't use the CPAP because I rip it off every time at night in my sleep. I have read somewhere about a machine free solution. Its kind of like a strap you wear over your head and jaw to keep your jaw set to force air through your nose. You may wanna look into that also if the insurance company stays acting stupid. I'll look for that link and if I find it I'll post it on here. Good luck.

Thanks guys.
Kim,that's why I let Janis deal with them. She as a way of getting around things where as I get upset and lose my cool.

Mike, I'd be very interested in that device. I have a hard time with the machine at times and end up ripping it off also. I quite breathing for 83 sec. the longest. Most were around 72.

Hey P - I bet all you need is a letter from your GP and Cardio (and the President) telling them it was necessary. Someone probably just dropped the approval ball somewhere along the way. I have had to clean up after ball droppers too many times buddy. Just call them and ask them what proof they need to make it go away and make that happen.

And for Pete's sake - quit holding your breath while you sleep - it's not good for you!! :O)

Thanks Mike. I'll check it out. If things don't get straightened out with the insurance co. I may have to give it a try.

Peaches, I always thought I quit breathing cause Janis was putting a pillow over my face to stop me from snoring. After doing the sleep study I have realized that she was innocent of fore mentioned crime. LOL
I just showed it to Janis and since she is calling about the remicade Monday she will get this mess taken care of. Like I've said before, she's my rock and my first line of defense. She gets better results than me cause she has a way of putting people at ease and they tend to try and go the extra mile for her. She's just too darn bubbly and sweet. Sometimes I wonder what I did to deserve her.
