Hi everyone you may have seen my other posts lately about my concern that aza wasn't working and how they were talking biologics but weren't listening to me as to how I'll he felt. Well he had faecal calprotectin of over 1800 crp and esr were rising. Then he was becoming constipated and then got to stage when it hurt to pee and walk. So I took him on the friday to our GP to check for a uti and there was none. Then on Sunday night had a huge pain that actually made him scream but it passed very quickly. I couldn't settle and went to gp again as movicol wasn't working either. She gave me a letter to go straight to the children's hospital. They did his bloods and crp had risen to 86.3 and wbc was high. They did an ultrasound that said the appendix area looked extremely abnormal. The gastro team felt it was appendicitis and said its going to still be quite a few weeks before MRI and scopes and now things had changed meaning that they were going to do keyhole to check appendix and possibly take it out. So spent Monday telling them pain was a number 10 but being his usual wee self he wasn't screaming. He was given antibiotics and paracetamol through iv along with fluids and emergencies came in meaning he didn't get to theatre on Monday and almost not on Tuesday either. Got taken down 7:20 on Tuesday evening. Was down for over 4 hours and ended up with open surgery had some of the bowel removed and 10cm of terminal ileum along with the appendix which was actually black. So was in intensive care over night and moved onto the ward yesterday evening. He is in a lot of pain and was saying last night that he wants to die. It's so hard to watch him but everyday is another day closer to feeling better. They have decided to postpone the biologics until he has healed from the surgery

Oh my goodness, what a nightmare. Thankfully you persisted to get treatment. I hope and pray recovery is quick.

That is a nightmare story and reeks of medical malpractice. If that were in the U.S., some docs would be in a heap of trouble. If they suspected his appendix, he should have gone immediately to surgery. I'm relieved to hear he survived it. Praying for a full recovery.

Your poor boy!! No wonder he felt so awful!!What a nightmare!

I hope they get him feeling better SOON! He's been through enough!

Thank God you persisted in having him looked at!! I'm sorry it ended with surgery!

But, as you said, everyday is one day closer to recovery! Wishes that he recovers quickly and he moves into remission for a long time!

Hugs :ghug:

Thank u everyone. It just proves persistance is key and mothers instinct is always right. Can't wait until he is feeling in less pain xo

Yikes, what a story and good for you for pushing so hard.
Someday that kid of yours will appreciate it....... once the pains gone.

How's he feeling now?

Big hugs for you
So hard when you KNOW something is wrong but no one else seems to think it's an issue

So glad he got the surgery
And hopefully is on the mend soon

Child life can help a lot
See if they have animal or music therapy
Really improves their mood while inpatient
