So excited!! First time in 4 years, solid stool!! Fasting works!

So over the past few weeks I have cut out all gluten. That means no bread, grains, or anything that contains gluten! (although I had a couple beers on the weekend, yes they have gluten in them) But anyway, I have basically been eating nothing but meat and vegetables and occasionally eggs. I used to be having in the range of 10 BM's a day, since getting rid of the gluten I'm down to about 3!!! And I noticed that after a couple of days!! I was so excited!

But now for the best news ever, Yesterday I did a 24hr fast, and this morning I had my first solid BM in 4 years!! I'm really excited!

I have a friend, who is a trainer, and is really extreme when it comes to health, he was talking about fasting the other day, and how it gives the bowels a rest and teaches your body to use the food it gets more efficiently and how everyone should do it. There is a lot of research about it and a lot of people believe our bodies aren't designed to have food so readily available. I also remember reading years ago in Mens Health about a guy who controls his Crohn's with weekly fasts. So I though Id try it. (Even though my girlfriend said I was a freekin idiot!! LOL!)

I ate a good dinner Tuesday night and then didn't have anything but water till last night, (Wednesday) 24 hours later. And woke up this morning feeling great and had a solid BM!!!!!
So I think this will be my weekly routine and see how it goes, I will keep everyone posted.

Has anyone else had success with fasting?? How do you do it?

Good to hear, man. Dr. Fuhrman is a big advocate of fasting. I recently picked up his book:

Considering food is what causes people with Crohn's problems, it makes perfect sense to just remove it for a little to give the bowels a break. A few people on here have advocated juice fasting also, where you only consume fresh veggie/fruit juices - but no food - for a few days. So you're still getting nutrition but giving your bowels a break.

That's awesome, Brian, that you saw an improvement in such a short time! I am not sure how safe it is to fast once a week, so perhaps you should consider mentioning it to you doctor. But maybe I am just being over cautious. Regardless, keep us posted and I hope you continue to improve!

I am procrastinating so badly when it comes to going gluten free. I know I will feel so much better.

Its honestly a lot easier than most people think. Especially when there are so many gluten free foods now appearing in grocery stores. Personally I dont eat any of them but the options are there.
You should try it even for a few days see how it works. :)

I went gluten free, dairy free, most meat free, and no night shade veggies, didnt do a thing for me. As I always say we are all different, plus I had two resections... but Fog way to go!!!!!!!:medal1: Your official solid poop medal

Thanks Pen! :)
I really attribute the majority of my feeling better to my fast yesterday. It's now night time and I only had 2 BM's today!! Both nice and solid!
Give it a try.

I am so proud and impressed with my now perfect bowel movements, that I want to take a photo and upload the image to share my joy with the world.

So I look forward to seeing yours too!!

I do not class fasting as extreme. I class it as a sensible treatment, if done properly. Medically it is used in health retreats around the world, as a controlling treatment and even a cure for many diseases, including autoimmune diseases.

I am following the ideas of Dr Joel Fuhrman and as well as diet and supplements, he recommends water fasting every month for C & UC. I have been doing short fasts for a few years now and have found them hugely beneficial. I have fasted on both vegetable juices and water. I find the juices easy, but it is not classed as proper fasting. I find the water harder and can only go 24 hours. But every little bit helps. I am building up to a supervised 5 day water fast at a clinic later this year.

Congratulations on your bowel movement. You should do a Suri Cruise and have it bronzed for all eternity:

I think it is a fairy tale, but apparently fairy tales do come true!

Good for you, Brian. Are you FEELING good in addition to pooping good?

Love seeing your posts, your avatar always makes me smile!

Oh its not the fasting that makes him extreme, thats very minor! Its everything he does. Definitely the healthiest person around!

Astra, I think Ikea used to carry it but it went by some funky name, as all their stuff does, you should go ask around the store :D

Amy, yeah I feel great! I have for a while now, but this breakthrough makes me feel even better.

I honestly cant wait for next weeks fast! :) Im also going to try some longer ones to see how much more improvement there can be. Nothing as long as 5 days like Miss Spencer, but maybe 48hrs. See how the will power holds up.
I have also read that juice fasts are a good detox/cleanse but dont give the bowels as much of a rest as a water fast does. And that is the desired effect for me, resting the bowels so they can heal.
