Hi everyone,

I know there was a post made a week or so ago about an itch, but I'm wondering if anyone has advice for me. I use Coloplast Sensura - 2 piece system. I love it in so many ways and have been using it since late April/early May...A few weeks back I started itching more than usual and I don't know why. My flange usually lasts an average of 5 days - sometimes 6! But every time I change it, I just want to itch the skin around the stoma like there's no tomorrow. It's actually hard to stop myself from scratching! I don't know what to do. I came across some cream a short while back when researching anti-itch stuff online, but I don't remember what it was. I'd love to use something to relieve the itch, but something that won't interfere with the adhesive on the flange. Something I can use as I change, before I put on the new flange, while I'm "getting some air." Any suggestions? Do you use anything or have you found anything that helps relieve the "itch that could"?? Or rather, the "itch that just woudn't go away??"

Any and all help is appreciated!

Are you using cavilon spray? Also, ask your stoma nurse for some powder. You also may need to change more frequently. Sorry!

I echo was Misty says. Cavilon Spray is fantastic for protecting skin under the flange. My well help with your itching! It is applied to the skin are under the flange during bag changing once you have cleaned the area. It is a skin barrier spray. Hope something helps!

Frankly, I just scratch...I get about 6 to 8 days out of my flanges (I use the same ones as you) so it does get kind of itchy around the stoma! I don't use my nails, I just use the tips of my fingers and rub like a mad woman!! I find that the itch abates after a minute or two. Just make sure you're not breaking the skin. If it seems red and irritated, I'd go to the doctor and have it checked out.

Wow! I must be doing something wrong wear time 6 to 8 days !!! Ive even bought some extra adhesive glue from NU-Hope and I still can't get more then 3 days. Plus I only had itching once before but my stoma well half of it turned black than greenish than whitish it went along with burning kept me up all night . Hope you get relief.

Well Pain in the Butt....you arent doing anything 'wrong'!!! The point is that everyone is different, and I for one went 6 days and I'm damn sorry I did! 3-4 days is ideal for me. Any more...problems!!!!

I have ripping skin due to a parastomal hernia. So that could explain it! However, I am wondering, fair skinned, sensitive skin, etc., perhaps we just cant get the wear out of it. I'm not feeling bad about it mind you. It just is what it is.

Not sure you are doing anything wrong - you probably (like myself) have an ileostomy - more liquid output. Those with colostomies can go much longer between changes.

mlusti 1 hope you found some relief. Didn't mean to take over your thread not always sure what to do? But thanks Terrernut and hopeful and I have a colostomy . mlusti 1 let us know if you found any relief ok.
