Hi guys,
Sorry if this is a repeat question. I've searched around the site but not found anything.
I was Dx with Crohn's almost 20 years ago, when I was 10, but just suffered my first stricture. Hospitalized for three nights last week with a blockage. Blech.
So for the first time in my life, I'm stuck on a soft food low fiber diet, and I'm having a hard time finding recipes or even ideas for what foods are "safe" and "unsafe." I'm eating a lot of white bread, pasta, pureed soups, pudding, etc etc, and drinking an ensure or two every day.
I'm especially gun-shy about fruit and vegetables. I love fruit and veg, but I'm worried it's going to get blocked at the stricture, and I don't know what I need to do to make them safe. Take corn or celery, for example. They're super high-fiber foods, but are they safe if i cook them really well and then maybe puree them (like in a home-made pasta sauce or chowder or something?). Also, there's a shop near my house that makes these amazing fruit smoothies, which are completely soft but they still have raw frozen fruit and berry seeds in them so I don't know if I'd be asking for trouble with them.
My GI doesn't work with a dietitian, unfortunately. He's a great doctor by and large, but seems to think this restricted diet thing is a lot more intuitive than I do. I'm working on trying to find a dietitian on my own, but it's hard to figure out which ones have experience dealing with this kind of problem.
