Well I know how much you all love a good news story, so I'll give you one...

Just got back from a week in Bali, and had no ill side-effects. Finally managed to get travel insurance before I went (see my other thread), so that made me feel a bit safer. Arrived back this morning (plane delays, ugh!) having had only a couple of "emergency" trips to the bathroom. And those all happened while I happened to be at my hotel or even in my room!!!

Of course, I contacted my GI a week prior to going and mentioned that I had had increased symptoms while tapering (50 - 30mg, 5mg per week). He allowed me to go back up before I went away, and then start tapering again after I arrived back. I see him next week anyway.

So - it IS possible to have Crohn's and travel. At least for me anyway...I have a mild case compared to most of you, but I do have a fair few trips planned in the next few months, so very good to know!!!

Anyway - there is hope for us all!!!

Hey there georgiegirl!

Woohoo, so great to hear that everything went well and the Crohns behaved itself! I bet you had a fab time. :):):)

Good luck with the docs appointment and I hope the taper goes okay.

So happy for you, :)
Dusty

Congrats!

I have been to Indonesia, but not to Bali (most of the other major cities in Java though).

For me when travelling with more severe symptoms, I had to make some sacrifices to ensure I could travel (like only eating boost/ensure) but that allowed me to get away to some sun in the winter, which was something I valued more than eating at the time.

What other trips do you have planned in the future?

I have a couple of short local trips in Australia planned, as well as Fiji in Feb. One thing that has saved me in the past is soup in places like Indonesia and Thailand. I swear, some restaurants serve the same soup my mum used to make when I was sick - and it's out of a can!!! While I'm sure they do it to cater to westerners, and I'm there to experience their culture, sometimes knowing they have one of my safe foods is a god-send!!
