We had our visit to the dietician today after my son has been on EEN for 1 wk. He has put on 300 grams!!!!! I'm really happy!!!! It's like he's a newborn baby again and every gram counts:D

He said this morning, he is getting used to his liquid diet and he seems happy and very energetic.

I wanted to ask something, our gastro dr has given us two blood test referrals, one is for now to test his iron stores and tpmt and another one for 2 wks after commencement of 6 MP....to see what his levels are.

What I've been reading about TPMT is that they check this enzyme in his body to see how he will tolerate the drug and how the side effects will be...is this correct??? Are I on the right track here??

If you click on the highlighted word in your post it will lead you to our wiki forum that will give you info on the test and threads in the forum that discuss tpmt.
Way to go on 300 grams! I'm so glad that he is feeling more energetic and more able to handle the EEN. I am just amazed at these little ones and their determination!!! I know it must be wonderful to see him more energetic and happier. What a trooper!

:thumright:Great to hear about the improved health and weight gain.:thumleft:
Now why can't people get excited when we gain weight?

:soledance:

That's great news, EN really works well for those who can manage! The TPNT is to see how his liver will tolerate the 6mp. My son had it done - it said it was borderline as to whether he would tolerate it. Didn't stop them from trying anyway!

Awesome news! Tell him we are all so proud of him for sticking it out through the hard part. I hope this is the beginning of many wonderful updates!

Sorryt can't help on those blood tests as my daughter is on Remicade.

Really pleased to hear about your son's weight gain . My daughter is 14 and taking Modulen and has gained about 12 pounds over 8 weeks. It's wonderful stuff; it's transformed her from looking like a skeleton to a healthy looking girl again. Hope it continues to work its magic!

Thanks for the update farmerswifey! and what a fab one it is! :):):)

The TPMT is to check if he has the enzyme necessary to break down the 6MP and therefore avoid the more serious side effects of the drug.

The other blood test that he will have 2 weeks after the commencement of 6MP are routine tests that he should continue to have now that he is on an immunosuppressant. They should at the very least be checking his FBC (Full Blood Count) and his LFT's (Liver Function Tests).

Thanks everyone, the first week on EEN was the hardest, but we have found a routine now, he has heaps of energy and I don't think I'm imagining it but he seems to have colour back in his face..he was always so pale and now he looks.......different..:)

Thanks guys, he is a really tough little guy....the coach of under 11's football wanted my son to play in his team desperately (up from under 9's) because although he is small, he is fast and tough :))

Hope you all are doing well, have a great day xo
