Sooooo upset!!

I am scheduled to have an MRE of the small bowel tomorrow morning at 8 am. I scheduled this appt. last Saturday. Well today at 3 oclock a lady from the hospital calls me and tells me that I have to cancel my appt. due to my insurnace saying they would not cover the test. Then she goes on to tell me that because I would be cancelling my appt so late that I would likely be charged for last minute cancelling! At this point I have steam coming out of my ears I am so damn mad!:ymad:

I was in tears and explained that I really need this test, I am sick and have been suffering for over a year! I called my primary care docs office and the office nurse got on the phone with the insurance company and started arguing with them. She dug up my paperwork and all the tests I have had since 2004 and started hammering them off to the insurance company. Finally they approved my test!!

I cannot believe a person has to go through all this just to get help. This is an outrage! If my doctor says I need this test, who the hell are they to deny me???? Well thanks to this insurance company putting me through the most stressful hour trying to get me approved , well now I am so sick and feel awful. my stomach is in knots, I feel sick and have so much pain! Damn them!!!

Ok, thanks for listening. At least I still have my appt tomorrow morning. I pray everything works out ok and I make it through the test.( especially after all I have gone through this last two weeks to get it).... Just hope I can swallow all that barium( blaaaah)!

Well, glad it got approve finally! It really is a battle sometimes and I know you're feeling it.

Hopefully they have the newer form of barium. Its creamy and tastes a little citrusy. You also don't have to drink bottle after bottle. The newer form coats a lot better so you don't have to drink as much. If its the old barium, just remind yourself that you're going to win this battle no matter what and you take that barium downtown so hard you'll make everyone else feel like a pansy for sipping. You got this! You can do it!

I have a very dear friend who was an ontological NP and her misdiagnosed cough ended up being 4th stage lung cancer. Thankfully that WAS OVER FOUR YEARS AGO! Being a 25 year NP dealing with patients who had what she got, Sharon knew her way around the insurance companies. A couple years after her diagnosis her insurance company turned down her script for medication she knew would keep her alive. She fought the bastards all the way to the CT Advocates office, spoke in front of the assembled congress and forced the insurance to comply.
Today she is on a remarkable trial drug that has shrunk and stabilized her tumor.
Advocating for ourselves is so difficult when we don't have the knowledge of a NP, but it's our lives and well being and you have to get down dirty and fight the SOBs.

I just had the MRE this morning. OMG, I feel sooo sick! I am sooo nauseous and have water diarrheaha. I am sure the diarrhea is from that crap thin watery crap they have you drink ( volumen). But I think the nausea is from the glucagon injection. Ughh, I feel awful. I keep haveing to run to the toliet with diarhea and feel so sick to my stomach. I pray this passes soon......

Thanks Terriernut. I hope it passes soon. My anal area is so painful and bleeding right now due to all the diarrhea, irt hurts so bad. Any suggestions?? How long till this diarrhea ends?? I am afaid to even eat anything today in fear I am going to keep getting the runs......

I do have suggestions for what will slow you down. Banana's! You also probably need the potassium, with the runs like that!

Also rice, or some oatmeal. I sure hope you feel better!

Oh dear, I'm so sorry that you have gotten so sick from that stuff. But I have to say I'm impressed that you fought the insurance company and won! Woo-hoo! Love it. It's ridiculous that we have to fight so hard for what we rightfully should be getting without the hassle. Unfortunately, I think they're counting on some people being too intimidated, uninformed, or too sick, to question them.

At least you got that test done and behind you. When do you get the results?

They said they would send my Dr. the results within a couple days or so..

I am already regretting this test. My anal area hurts sooo bad. Now I even have a sore down there from all the diarrhea. Ughh, this sucks!
