Good news is Covid test Sunday was negative, bad news is I have a wicked sore throat since Saturday night…..went to urgent care for a strep test this morning which was negative, but the sample is getting sent out to culture….. I’ve had strep multiple times before and it sure feels like it!!

Sore throat, I do have some post nasal drip but no runny/snotty nose, no cough, red throat and swollen lymph nodes…. May have run a slight fever over the weekend, and my normal temp is @97.4…..it’s running about 98.4 but did hit 100 after a shower on Sunday.
Using trial and error to find things that help…cough drops meh, cepacol spray helps for a few minutes…..Tylenol meh…. It was bad enough I did pop a Percocet just to see what it would do….. barely touched it…. May resort to taking the dreaded Advil soon as that seemed to help more last night.
Of course, I have a ton of work to do, managed to do a little field work on my travels back from the doctors and answer a bunch of emails.

just feeling overall crappy, tired, and hurting.
Thanks for reading!! 😁🙄😁🙄

Going through exactly the same symptoms right now. I haven't done a Covid test yet, but I am sure it is Covid as my son was just tested positive. The sore throat pain is very strong and present all the time. When I had sore throad before it would hurt when swallowing or talking/coughing. This one is always present, and it feels like acid burning through tissue. I gargle with salt water 2-3 times a day, and sip cold water every few minutes. I noticed drinking hot water/tea makes it worse.

What kind of Covid test have you done? Is it possible that it was false negative?

It was a home antigen test…. Last time I took one it popped up positive within seconds…..

i have had strep multiple times and this really feels like it, still waiting for the culture results though.
Today is day 4 off really sore throat and swollen glands, still no fever though.
If I still have it by Thursday I’m going to call my primary office and get seen again for another test…. And I may do another Covid test too.

Gargling salt water kills bacteria in the back of the throat
Sometimes it helps when I try it

My kiddo takes Celebrex (cox-2 inhibitors) much easier on the gut -but still a nsaid similar to advil
It’s by prescription so …
Feel better

I started to feel better today after exactly 4 and a half days from the time the symptoms started. I wish you the same. I am still not back to normal, but manageable.

I’m finishing day 4 of the sore throat and right now feels as bad as the first day…..I was able to keep it to a dull roar at work but I think I waited too long to take another dose of meds. I’m also taking a decongestant now, was coughing up green snot this morning. Now my cough is mostly dry, but it hurts too.
Got Chlorasepric, doesn’t really do anything.
Good news I guess is the strep culture came back negative.
Now to try to get some sleep, and hoping this is better by the weekend!

Aannddd…back at the doc (partly to make my husband feel better)….running a temp now, still coughing up green snot but not a lot as it hurts to cough…sore throat up into my ears…..post nasal drip and sinuses are pretty much swollen shut. Good? News is that I don’t have much of anything coming out my nose when I blow…..

🤢 blech 🤢

2nd visit to urgent care Thursday resulted in seeing a doc who was actually familiar with Remicade and concerns of being sick while on it!!!
Got a 10 day course of amoxicillin, and a medrol-pack…..started that Thursday night and by Friday morning was already feeling a TON better.
Now, sore throat is all but gone, I do still have a lot of post nasal drip and am trying to cough up the gunk in my lungs. Getting a dry feeling every so often too which leads to coughing jags that I can’t control…not too fun.
I finish the pred on Tuesday, and the amoxicillin next Sunday. Just in time to go on vacation Tuesday!!

Well, the saga continues!!

last day of augmentin and I had a specific spot on the right side in my throat that was sores…. Continued to be very sore, right side of my neck was noticeably warmer one day…. Went on vacation the 12th with the soreness and continued to have it with an added uncontrollable cough every so often (felt like a dry spot would suddenly appear and cause the cough)….

got home from vacation this past Tuesday, ended up taking a Percocet at night as my throat hurt that much…. was able to get in to the doctors office yesterday morning and got another prescription for augmentin…..Advil does seem to help with the pain, going to try just that tonight for starters….

And of course I have my Remicade infusion this coming Monday!!

Sounds like you have an awful case of the nasties. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this.

Not sure this will help but desperate times right? In our house we use Oil of Wild Oregano for all things fly, cold, throat related and it seems to really help. Two to four drops under the tongue and voila…gone. Even if it is an infection that needs antibiotics the Wild Oregano really helps the pain. If you want the brand we use PM me as I am not sure if we are allowed to mention brand names in posts.

I was going to suggest the same thing - Oil of Oregano (no brand name - they are all pretty spicy!). I think it's a great product.
Hope it finally goes away.... Go away sore throat - go away pain - go away and let Lisa feel well again!

It has to be wild oregano though and like probiotics with IBD, the studies on Wild Oregano oil are all done with a specific brand…at least the ones I was given to read way back when.

oh and it is 2-4 drops under tongue daily not just once.

I'll have to look into that,...thanks!

So, had my Remicade infusion yesterday (did mention I was on Augmentin, but to contraindications for that)...throat still had the sore/lumpy spot, but by last night it was GONE - most probably due to the solu-medrol (40mg) I get before my infusion.....I do have an appointment with an ENT for next Monday, we will see if the soreness comes back before then or not...and, of course I forgot to take my augmentin this morning before leaving for work! ugh...will have to take it as soon as I get home later today as I don't think my husband is coning into town for work.

Aannddd the sore throat (on the right side only!) is back….day 4 now….I have to pick up a prescription of clindamycin today and see if that does anything…..ugh

Did you receive antibiotics even when your streptoco test was negative? In other words to prevent... How do you feel about that? Because I were in the same situation (2 times in last 4 months). I hadn't a bacterial infection on test but doctors said that I should be on them. That is controversial because antibiotics could become worst crohn's. I felt very bad when I took antibiotics, pretty next to start a flare in my opinion.

I took a 10 day course of antibiotics with the first bout.....went a little over a week before having to get more antibiotics...both times Augmentin....Thankfully neither course messed with my belly at all....

I pick up the new stuff this afternoon and will start them (Clyndamicin) on a 10 day course. I'm hoping this helps, what is annoying is the pain I have is only on one side, and it feels like my tongue is a little swollen on that side too....I can feel it up against my teeth more so than the other side...

Argh Lisa, I am so sorry to hear this. What did the ENT say?

Got a new antibiotic prescription, if that doesn't help, or helps and it comes back I have to go in to see her again.....

I DO have my tonsils....wondering if this is turning into recurring tonsilitis....I know on my last visit to the ENT there was swelling still at my lingual tonsils...

My son had sore throats and pain in the chest when swallowing at the ends of remicade cycles. This kind of recurring sore throat could be related to the Remicade.

Interesting!!!

I’m on day 5 out of 10 on antibiotics this go round…. Am hoping it doesn’t come back when I finish up…I have work out of town (at our state fair) for almost 2 weeks then a week of vacation the middle of September!!!
