Just found an answerphone message from this morning from my doctors asking me to ring back. I did, but the surgery is closed for staff training! So I can't speak to anyone till tomorrow to find out what the problem is. Aaah! I'm freaking out a bit now, I had a blood test on Monday, just FBC and ferritin to see if I need another lot of iron tabs or not. But last time, when they decided I needed iron, they posted me a note and a script. So whatever they're ringing for must be kind of urgent, if it was just iron again they would have posted it again surely?

Hiya Rebecca

I had something similar last week, had bloods done, then the phone call, turns out the results were inconclusive and could I repeat the tests again and make appt.
Try not to worry

Oh I feel a bit silly now! I guess if it's really urgent the doc will ring tonight anyway- when they have queried prescriptions or info from the hospital the doc has rung himself after surgery hours. And that's just reminded me- I also ordered another lot of aza through the pharmacy collection service- maybe I ran out of repeats and didn't know?

Any chance you're anaemic? Sometimes they'll ring to let you know, and try and get you on iron.

my doctor calling me has been a mixed bag.
It's one end of the spectrum or the other. The first time was to tell me that I had pancreatitis, the last time was to tell me that blood work came back and I was immune to Hepatitis A.

Everytime my GI calls me I get all worked up, but he calls after every blood test. You'd think by know i would be ready but never am.

Iron isn't over the counter in the Uk?

I know you can get low dose iron pills (like in multivits or something- normally only a few mg) over the counter, but not sure about the high dose ones. Besides, I have a prepayment certificate, you pay £30 up front and get all your prescriptions included for 3 months. I buy it to cover my aza and pentasa. So effectively i get additional prescriptions for free. I even phone up and ask them to prescribe me paracetamol (tylenol!). Every little helps when you're on a tight budget!

Blimey, me too. Blood test Monday...result was being cross matched today for blood transfusion Friday and more iron infusions next week. Oh well , at least will feel less knackered. At least this time can have on day treatment unit unlike hospital admission in the past. Got to try and see some positives to yet more stabs.
Do you think we should get all superstitious and avoid Monday blood tests?
Rebecca, I'm sure it won't be as bad as you think , if it was terrible they would have kept ringing until they got hold of you. It may just be you aren't responding as quickly as hoped to the iron and with you being on aza as well they just want to do a bit of tweaking!

*feeling rather sheepish* they were just ringing to tell me blood test was fine (no iron deficiency or anaemia present). But they've never done that before! (normally just a letter saying blood test is satisfactory)
