Starting 6MP and working in a hospital

Hey all,
I have Crohn's Disease (Dx 06/2004) and My doctor wants to start me on 6MP. For those of you who have been on it, is it effective? Also, I work in a emergency room right now, so are there any other nurses or doctors out there that are okay being on 6MP and still working in a hospital setting?

My son has been on 6mp since October. It has been very effective for him. He hasn't be sick at all this year and he actually seems healthier since starting it. Before his diagnosis he was sick quite a bit. He had to go to the ER for a foot injury and I mentioned he was on an immune suppressant and they immediately put us in a seperate room and gave him a mask so they took it pretty seriously. His elementary school is pretty germ filled and he has been fine.

It made me more prone to infections. That doesn't mean it will have that affect on you, just keep an eye out for it.

I was on Aza and now on Methotrexate and I work in a hospital as well (not in direct patient care, but, lord only knows what you're in contact with on the elevator, in the halls, in the cafeteria line etc...). I've been surprisingly healthy (all things considered), and the cold that knocked out DH for almost two weeks, only keep me out of commission for a few days. But, everyone is different. But, I would think that you may want to exercise 'droplet precautions' if possible.

Hi, I work in direct contact with patients( though off sick currently). I am on aza and humira and have persistently low white cells. Despite this the only infections I have had have been picked up outside of work.
