starting Humira

I have been on remicaid for more than 10 yrs with great results until last week, my doctor says I am no longer responding and wants to start me on humira. I am very nervous about having to stick myself. Any advice?

Welcome to the forum babcakes!

I assume you also were suffering some symptoms more recently to help the doctor conclude it is no longer responding?

While I have personally never been on Humira, we have a dedicated Humira support and information forum that I encourage you to read through and post in if you have any questions.

Glad you found us and good luck starting on Humira!

Hello and welcome babycakes, I was also wondering what brought this about, is it symptoms or down to what blood tests are showing? I also have not been on Humira so the above mentioned forum is a good place to look.

It is great you have joined us hun, we are here for you!

Hi there babycakes, and welcome to Humira ! I did the loading phase of Remicade, but had a bit of a reaction to it (seizures and vomitas maximus) So about 18 months ago I was switched to Humira. Love it, been in remission now for about 4 months, with no side effects . Also on max dose of azathioprine, the combo seems to work for me. As for the "hokey pokey" side of things ,it really is not a big deal. The pre-filled syringe is what i prefer ,as i can determine how fast to administer the drug. The needle is small, and a bit of ice to numb the area is nice too. Wipe with alcohol swab after ice, before needle. Ice can be unsterile! Then pen can also be used ,but some dont hold it close enough to the skin and it squirts all over the place (expensive!!) anymore questions, just ask. cheers

Thank you to everyone for your replies. I still have to do the TB skin test on tommorrow. Does anyone know how humira compares to remicaid cost wise. If I have to stick myself I hope it will at least save me some money.

I think Abbot, the manufacturer, helps with your Humira copay, if you have prescription coverage. Go here and select "affording your medication."

If you don't have prescription coverage, you may qualify to get it for free - there's a questionnaire for that.

Thanks, I will be checking out that website. Wish I had found this forum 18 yrs. ago. You guys are full of great information. May God continue to bless you all!
