Starting Remicade Treatment

Hi

I am new to this forum. I am having a bit of a flare up and looking for some advice. I have been told that I have Several skip lesions with proximal dilation. I'm also low on b12 and have started getting injections for that. Dont seem to be working yet! I am currently on 100mg of azathioprine and will be starting treatment next week. I am really nervous, especially after reading all the potential side effects but I feel like I don't have any other option. Is anyone on remicade? Any advice would really be appreciated.

How long have you been on azathioprine? It can take a few months to start working. Just wondering if you have been it long enough to be of help.

Hello and welcome to the forum, I am sorry to hear you are flaring again

With regards to the B12 how many injections have you had so far and did you have a batch done all at once? As to the Remi I was on this a fair while back now and with each infusion I was also given something to avoid reaction to it. I did really well on it for ages and was even about to move my infusions further apart when I had an allergic reaction to it so it was stopped. This does not happen to everyone - we are all different with these things and I have seen folks here who have been on it for years without issue. I have been on azathioprine since 2006. Although I did stop taking it (against the docs recommendation) last year for 6 months as I was feeling really well and stopped getting any CD symptoms, first time since being diagnosed. I see now this was probably a silly choice and I guess this might be why I am flaring now!

Thanks for the link Angrybird I will check that out. Its also good to know treatment went well for you, im sorry it stopped working! Did you switch to Humira? Have just started b12 treatment. 6 shots over two weeks, I just had my forth, then I will get it every three months after that.

You remind me of myself. I was on 6mp for several years and stopped taking it on my own. After I did that it never did work well for me.

As for Remicade it was a wonder drug for me until I contracted Histoplasmosis. My advise is to be aware of the possible complications to look for when on Remicade.

Hiya, after the Remi I was put the the Methotrexate. On this I always had a general feeling of being run down with a constant snuffly nose, I then started havng tummy problems and the doc found a stricture which led to my op last year. MTX was stopped before the op and I am currently on 6mp and doing well, if this failed then Humira would be the next one to go to.

*** wise for the B12 that it how I started with the initial 6 and then 3 monthly, seems to be doing the trick!
