starting soon

I'm finally starting Humira in a week or so. My new Doctor seems great and said that since I have inflammation in the small and large bowel he'd keep me on Lialda and add the humira. Something about lialda, and the family it's in, having some colon cancer prevention. Glad my prescription coverage is good!

my son started 12 days ago. he says he doesnt feel any better/worse at this point. thursday is his next dose and im so praying that with this dose he gets some comfort.

good luck to you sweetie :)

I passed my tb test on Saturdy. So now just waiting for the ok from the doctor. It feels dumb to say I'm looking forward to it, but I am! Thanks!

Good luck Stinky, it is so convenient and every two weeks. So are you going with the Pens? Good luck and when I come back in Sept-Oct I wanna see progress! :nonono:

I started Humira today. I got 4 injections (pens). I wait fifteen days then two pens, then from that point on just one pen. Boy the pain was worse then I was expecting. I got two pens in each leg. I just can't describe the burning, and it seemed to last awhile. I just hope I can see results soon. I also have a lot of bruising. I think I am going to try the abdomen next time.

Hey stinky,

I hope all works well with Humira...Good luck!

Have you started yet?

Dusty.

I'm having an MRI scan in May and then I'm being started o the Humira - I have to say I'm really nervous about it and even a little bit scared but if its got to be done then I just have to get on with it. I hope everyone gets on ok with it! :thumright:

I got my apointment for Friday for the four shots. I am scared too because everyone says it hurts. There is not much we can do about that right? painful shots, nasty drinks, embarrasing "moments" it's what we do right?

The one thing this stupid disease has made me realise is that it takes a LOT to make me embarrassed these days! Ill quite happily talk toilet habits and the like and I wont even bat an eyelid! :)

well actually that was pretty smooth. My nurse said most people prefer the thigh, since I had 4 shots, I said lets try the thigh and then try the belly. Well the thigh went so easy I just did all 4 in the thigh. The last two were worse but not too bad. I probably should not say this, but man my nurse is smokin' hot. 20 something blonde hair blue eyes and curves in all the right places. I wanted 20 shots! lol So now I'm on my way! I hope it's effective!

Steady on there old boy. Perhaps you were a little distracted and that's why you weren't feelin' any pain! :ylol:

Fingers and toes crossed mate that all continues to go well and it does the trick for a very long time.

Dusty.

EJ's two weeks ahead of you Scott!! He had his double dose yesterday. He prefers the thigh also. So far so good! Hope it stays that way for both of you!!

well the nurse called me to see how everything was going with my shots. Wow, what a change from my last two doctors. I never even met the nurses let alone had them call me to just check on me. (I wanted to say I think I need more shots when can you see me cutey?, but I was on my best behavior!) I honestly have not noticed any change. I went down to two lialda a day and I noticed that change with loose movements, not terrible but I'd go back to four if not for waiting on humira to kick in. BTW why does everyone pronounce this hum-air-a? It looks like hum-I-ra to me! But what do I know? Hope all my peeps here in Humira land are well!

I say hum-ear-a Scott:). Did your GI give you a timeline as to when you should notice a change?

Any advice? I'm going to be getting my first 4 shots on Thursday and I'm getting nervous about it...

Hi Scott, well done, I just started Humira last friday and had all 4 shots in the belly and all was good as well, not sure when its supposed to kick in either, but I am feeling better than I had been, (perhaps improving from my last hosp visit 5 weeks ago when I was admitted for a severe reaction to the Imuran).

Hi Sunras, I too was very apprehensive due to my imuran issue 5 weeks ago. But I had great support from the Gastro Liaison Officers at the hospital I was in, as well as the Humira website. The nurse did the first two injections and I did the next two in the other side of the belly. I found the pens similar to when someone has an a diabetes check. so far I have not had any problems and hope it stays that way.

Rgds Mike

Mark, I can just about hear the southern accent in Hum-ear-a. lol They didn't give me any time line and I didn't ask. How is EJ doing?

Scott, EJ's feeling great but he was before starting H. It'll be the bloods that tell us how the H is working. Should be scheduled soon!

Well I am waiting for something to happen but it seems pretty much the same. I started to have D lately which is not a good sign, but I did go down to 2 Lialda a day on the docs orders, so I might have to go back to 4. I just got a bill for my Lialda that was way out of line, or so I thought, turns out my plan covers $7,000 worth of meds and then I pay 20% of the cost. So if I do 4 Lialda a day and Humira it's like $420 a month, once I use up the $7,000. Hopefully I don't need any other drugs during the year! I don't have this in my budget! Dang it! :yfrown:

Hey scott,

I'm starting humira soon. Yeah I am looking forward to it too! Glad its been going well. Ugh, about insurance deals. They have been delaying my meds for a while. Yeah, it is expensive too. Goodluck!

Well I had a small hiccup with insurance and when it came time for my first single dose the pharmacy could not deliver since my insurance said I had to use a different specialty pharmacy that was mail order only. Well I told my nurse about this because I needed her to send the script in and when she found out it was my day for a shot she went and found me shots! It is so awesome to have a good nurse like her. I am so glad that in one short year I am on my third doctor, because even though switching is a pain, finding a good team makes you feel really great! Yeah, what I said before still applies, but even better than her hottieness is how well she does her job!

Woohoo Stinky!!!

So fab to hear that all is going well!

Nurse Hottie! Time for your shot big boy...ahahahaha...Oh no Mr Stinky you can leave your trousers up, we don't usually give them in your butt!

Hubba, hubba,
Dusty. xxx

Whoa, no kidding Scott!! So they were just going to let you go without!! I wish I could meet an ass-kickin' nurse like that!!

I just found out yesterday I cannot get my Humira filled at a retail pharmacy also. ... Well, I could, but I would have to pay full retail price!

I contacted the specialty pharmacy. They contacted my G.I.'s office and requested a new prescription. At least I have not started anything yet. They need to get the pre-authorization, which has been a problem in the past but this time I should be approved because I have now failed on 2 other approved therapies (sulfasalazine - an abysmal failure, Asacol - having an affect, but still with loose stools and sometimes "D"). I should get an approval now.

I really hope to be joining you guys shortly.

I wondered if getting the Humira would be as easy as going to the pharmacy. The insurance website didn't say it had special requirements - but we shall see. Nothing ever seems easy for me, so this can't either. I would ruin my perfect record of disasters! LOL!!

sunflower hang in there things will come around for you.

They usually ship humira in a cooler with ice to keep it cold. I found out my insurance has a cap on drugs, which I exceeded and my plan requires me to pay 20% of the cost, which is like 360 dollars. But Abbott has a copay card so all I pay now is 5 dollars. Which is nice. I used a specialty pharmacy also I think it is required for this stuff. It has a limited shelf life and has to stay cold.

@sunflower--I get my Humira filled at my regular pharmacy, no problems. They keep in in a fridge there for me to pick up.
I have been offered mail order as well, but its just as easy for me to pick up as I usually have more prescriptions to get anyway.

I think the specialty pharmacy is required by most insurance coverages because they have worked out contract deals with them - it reduces the insurance companies costs.

Hey stinky, thanks for the advice. I did call my insurance and they directed me to the specialty pharmacy that I need to use. Heather, my pharmacy would be happy to help me. I know they would. But, it is better to do what you are supposed to do for the benefits. At least I hope I am doing it right. Neither of the customer service people seemed to be quite sure what to do. Grrrr.

had a scope today. my colon looked good and the illium was improved with a lot less inflamation than one year ago, so Humira is doing pretty good. I only have to sweat out waiting on biopsies of two polyps he looped from my colon. I still take the lialda too so maybe that deserves some credit too.

The specialty pharmacy does get some kind of deal - the price I was originally quoted is much higher than what they are actually charging me now.

Thank you. I also got my blood work back and my Vitamin D level is 29 which is below the 30 that is currently recommended, Oddly enough I take a 5000 Ui D tablet everyday. I decided to start taking two a day.
