Stent for stricture

Hi.
I have a stricture where my surgeon joined together my small and large bowel after a resection of some of my ileum. But I have a build up of scar tissue and occasionally it causes me block.

I used to have colonoscopy dilation done to correct it, and this worked a trick for a while as I had no signs of active Chrohn's in the area.

But my symptons have started to return, and I was wondering if anyone has had experience of having a SEMS (Self Expanding Metal Stent) fitted to keep the stricture open.

I have been doing some reseach on the net and it seems like it is a good fix instead of surgery (Which I want to avoid)

Cheers

Seems to be a newer treatment option - a mesh of sorts. Is it a temporary stent that dissolves over time? I haven't seen much on this, but it looks really interesting and promising, especially for purely mechanical issues. Hope to hear more.
Good luck.

Oooh, this sounds interesting! I'm curious too.

My transverse is a wreck, I wonder if this would do the trick?

Very interesting indeed. Will they stent an area with active inflammation or only areas that are scarred due to surgery? As you continue to do research and find out more from your doctor, it would be greatly appreciated if you could share here as others would no doubt benefit a lot!

hi iv got a stricture near my duodenum, which was causing vomiting, bloating, nausea etc, it was treated with Humira(Adalimumab) but i had side effects that meant i couldnt stay on it long enough to full open the stricture.
I have spoke to my Doctor about balloon dilation and was tested a accepted as a good candidate for it to be used.
Has anyone ever had a Stent placed after balloon dilation? Or anyone know if this could be done for a stricture?
