I could not find my original thread for this. My son is down to 2 capsules of vancomycin after 10 weeks of a tapered dose. This is following 10 days of flagyl that obviously didn't work. he was doing better, now he has had diarrhea, gas, and pain several times tonight. It's been picking up over the past 4 or 5 days. Think it's c. diff still? I'm going to have the doctor order another stool study in the morning, but what has your experience been? Does your doc do labs routinely after abx? If he still has c diff what's next? I'm already exhausted by It as we're still trying to treat his perianal disease. Thanks!

Our GI has run multiple c-diff samples even though DS has never tested positive
Not sure how long for it to be negative ???

It could be. If he still has symptoms they may want another stool sample. It cover be however that the c diff just made his crowns flare ores and that is the issue. I did 2.5 weeks of flagyl and was sure I was still C diff positive but I tested negative and my GI said it was likely the C diff caused my UC to flare majorly. I would get labs done to check for anemia. Its easier to correct if you catch it earlier (oral iron might suffice vs IV iron).

I had c-diff at the beginning of the yr. I did a round of Flagyl and when I was done I still had symptoms. We had a hard time determining whether I was flaring or I still had c-diff. My GI said that I would test positive for c-diff even if I was clear of it because you still shed the bacteria several weeks after. It doesn't mean the spores are hatched or he had an active infection it just means he is still shedding the spores. The way my GI treated was to do a sigmoidoscopy and take biopsies of the inflammation and test the biopsies for c-diff and other infections. (C-diff came back negative)

I think we tested a couple weeks after my daughter was done with her CDiff treatment (she was on Vancomycin too). She still had CDiff like symptoms - pain, diarrhea, urgency - but when we eventually tested she was negative.

She then was scoped and the scope showed some inflammation in her TI which we assumed was causing the symptoms (Biopsies showed no CDiff). After a little while, her symptoms went away and everything when backed to normal (can't remember if we added Entocort then...we might have).

Good luck!

Her terminal ileum, sorry. Her CDiff was treated with Vancomycin. It caused a (small) flare which eventually went away (she was on Remicade at the time).

Well, as usual it took forever to get va stool sample. But, he still tested positive for c. Diff. So this will be our second round of vanc 😳 not much diarrhea though. The sample was actually normally formed. It did appear to have blood in it though. Doc is really pushing for an MRE at this point.
