Hello,

Recently got an ileostomy done and I've noticed that I am seeing medication pills in my ileostomy.
First, it started with pantoprazole, and now I think I'm noticing my Rinvoq in my ileostomy bag as well.

Has anyone had experiences like this and what are they doing to help prevent this from happening?
I'm still only 2 to 3 weeks out of surgery and so I know my output is higher than it should be and things are moving down my digestive tract pretty quickly...just not sure if I'm getting all the medication I need.

Ileostomy here and just started Rinvoq in the past few weeks. I have a fast track and was passing pills (or ghost pills) but have had more luck switching to taking at night and rarely see a trace and, even if so, hardly as voluminous or pill-shaped. Might be worth a shot (consult with your doc first though...and to let them know if issues if you haven't already).

Glad that worked out for you! I plan on switching my Rinvoq over to nights starting tomorrow...(I started up Rinvoq today, so I don't think it'll be too much of an issue).

I'm glad that worked out for you because even before you posted, that was my plan. The reason being that I take pantaprozole in the morning and evening. I noticed that my morning pantaprozole shows up in my pouch in 3 hours. However, my night pantaprozole doesn't appear.

Whatever the reason that may be, I think taking it at night might be a better approach. Hope it works out like it did for you!

By the way, what did you pills look like when it appeared? Mine were pale-milky white and squishy. I tried reaching out to Abbvie to see what they mean by "medication residue" and if they had a description of it...and they were pretty useless in providing that information.

Hope the timing change works for you. When I had them pass, the pill was usually the same shape but at various sizes depending on time passed (formed but soft). Occasionally I see residue in smaller bits not with form that I suspect is some but also know not all of the pill material is the drug.

Thanks for letting me know! Were they still the same color (orange-ish?) or did it change color to something else?
Anyways, I'll let you know how it goes for me. Maybe other Crohnies experiencing the same thing will get benefit from our experience.

Mine were white, as the coating and presumably some of the pill had been released.
