I used to be a religious coffee drinker, it never effected my Crohn's or triggered any symptoms. I recovered form my worst state, had ulcers heal etc. while still drinking it.

I finally hit a wall where I wasn't getting any benefit, took a 32 oz mug of espresso to work and it just made me warm.

I quit cold turkey for about a month, recently started drinking it again but with better moderation for the winter and now my stomach isn't having it.

I get cramps and diarrhea.

Why do you think it would suddenly have trouble with it after being fine for so long?

Maybe it has to do with balance of naturally produced stomach acid?
I don't get reflux ever.

I get that once in a while. No explanation. Just can't touch coffee.

I'm not sure why the sudden onset, but maybe it's just the fact that your body had adapted to drinking it, and after quitting cold turkey, you lost that? I've known people who've had similar things happen with alcohol.

Coffee can be a big problem for a lot of Crohnies though...I know for me, I can't touch the stuff. It sends me straight to the bathroom.

I can drink decaf coffee. However, caffeinated coffee always gives me cramps, bloating, and nausea. If I'm super tired and want to risk it for the benefits of waking up a bit, I'll just drink a caffeinated black.

Found out it's certain brands of whole-bean non-instant coffee. Doesn't seem to be any kind of determining factor. Some columbian / arabica I can and others I can't.
