Stool collection instructions

Only the likes of our crew would consider a stool collection chart "cool". :ylol:

But walnut size for fecal cal? Yikes! I had always read 5 grams and O just handed in a very small sample. Here's hoping it was enough. The lady at lab said it wasn't but she just figured she didn't know what she was talking about because it was about the same as she has handed in, in the past. Plus that jar is small and so is the spoon attached to the lid! .K. we definitely know too much about this subject:eek:

Get your kiddo to do it ;). Or at least you can try . May not work.

crohnsinct - we NEVER use that tiny plastic spoon attached to a cap. I just give them a regular sized plastic spoon which makes it much easier to get more poop in the jar or even thin tube.

Haha! We used to use a regular spoon but then they switch to those tiny jars and it got a little messy getting it into the jar.

Who knew there was a technique to collecting poo? can we put it on our resumes?

Yeah...It is a messy process ;). I give my daughter gloves, paper towels, and a spoon (and of course the hat). I figure after they're 18, poop collection is their own messy job!

I remember being so embarrassed returning Grace's first stool sample to the lab.
The brown paper bags I kept closed so no one can see.
Forward a few years........
Next time I take one in I'm going to put in big red letters.
YA, IT'S WHAT YOU THINK IT IS!
OR
HAVE A LIGHTER, LET ME SHOW YOU A TRICK!
Or
NOT YOUR LUNCH!
OR
IT'S POOP IN HERE!
I sure they'll get kick out of it in the lab. 😂

I think the stool collection kits are the same, whether it's an adult or a child. My 21 year old gets the same kits she used at 15.

But the reference range of the test might be different - for example, young children naturally have a higher Fecal Calprotectin, so the range of normal is different if they're under a certain age. So there are some differences.

You're more likely to find info specifically for adults on the general IBD forum than on the Parents of Kids with IBD forum.

OMGOSH! Lynda Lynda! NO! Don't leave. We love having you here. I can assure you Maya meant nothing by that. She just meant that we wouldn't have the most up to date information for you and that you might get a very specific answer from the there adults.

We like having the adult perspective around here. Let's us know what our kids are in for and you guys can explain things about the disease because you have it and know what our kids face. Try as hard as we might, unless we have the disease we could never really know so any insight is valuable.

Oh no! I didn't mean that. Just that you're more likely to find specifics there than here.

Many of us (including me) have adult children (mine is 21), but because most young adults stay with their pediatric GIs for a while (often through college), we really know much more about the pediatric IBD world vs. the adult IBD world. That's all I meant. That we just may not know what is the most up to date info for adults.
