Stool softeners

Hi there, I have recently begun to have the closest to normal BM's that I've had in a while. While I am very happy that they are finally beginning to be normal again, they hurt like hell. I think it's because my body isn't used to have formed stool and isn't 'tough enough'. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, would stool softeners be okay. I've never taken them, and don't want to mess with any progress I've made lately. But I'm in so much pain when I go to the bathroom that it makes me nauseous. I'm also wondering if I have fissures. Any advice would be wonderful!

I would call your doctor and ask him about whether you have a fissure. There is also a section on here called Fistulas, Fissures and Abscesses. You might want to check that section out.

I agree with Ron,check first.I'm using stool softeners at the moment. My bathroom trips are erratic to say the least.Never the same two days running. If I feel I'm slowing down too much, I take stool softeners and fibrogel for a few days.I have an intense fear of a blockage, so if I don't go on only one day,I resort to the above. I drink lots of water too.

As said above i would ask first. But i can get constipated whilst still going regularly due to painkillers. It even showed on a xray once, and yet i was going normally (as normal as ours can be lol). So same as above, when i dont go for a day i panic. My GI has told me to consider stool softeners as laxatives would cause problems. I am starting to see a connection with constipation and having obstructions.
