stress

Is stress more often to give you a flare up with crohns or is it when you eat...just wondering because I just had words with my dad and its really bothering me. I was wrong but I'm to pissed off to tell him

from what my dr. says stress is a big trigger. he say we take are stress and hold it in. which makes me feel like I have a knot in my belly. he even told me to try yoga to relax haven't yet but I plan to start with video's because going to a class where I don't know what I'm doing, well stresses me out, and that just defeats purpose. hope this helped

I think the short answer is both! I've pretty much identified what foods will set me off now, but it's a lot harder to get a handle on the stress. If I'm worked up or worrying about something, the pain is soon to follow.
Take a walk or do something that will relax you, then bite the bullet, and go apologise to your Dad :)

Stress is a definite trigger for me. When I was in uni, I had to be careful that I didn't get too stressed at the beginning of the year, otherwise I'd trigger a flare. I managed to get through with only one flare the entire time, which was when I transferred from a small community-type college to the big state school.

Moving to the UK also set me off. It was the pre-move trip that initially set me off(ended up in the ER just a day before I was set to fly to Europe), and have been dealing with the flare for the last two years.

It usually has to be big one-off stressful situations that set me off. I try really hard not to let things get to me in everyday life and work, and find that I'm reasonably successful at this. But managing big life events has been a bit challenging.

From my personal experience, Stress is the cause of IBD.

Some people get psoraisis on there body due stress and that has been proven... well IBD is the same thing but to the colon. I strongly believe stress is the cause of IBD.

Certain foods will irritate your bowel if you are on a flair, but i dont believe it causes one.

This is all in my opinion though!

I find that stress always seems to make me feel 'worse' and I get tummy aches, bowel problems etc soon after a stressful situation..

But everyone different.

I personally think stress is a big problem with IBD

Stress is absolutely a factor. It can trigger pain and/or make it worse. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to develop good stress reduction habits.

I had fissures for years but my fissure turning into a gigantic monstrous ulcer completely coincided with my ex boyfriend moving back to Ireland and the prospect of us never being together again (he was completely the love of my life.) I've never been so miserable and I've also never been so unwell.

I would say i get more cramps when im stressing out. There is alot of research that says the mind and the bowels are connected. I'm sure some sort of stress managment would be a good idea for all ibd suffers.

Without a doubt stress is a major cause of our illnesses. I heard it from my surgeon who did ankle surgery on me back in March , he stated it shows in 2 ways 1 being the skin ie.pimples ,psorisis etc, and 2nd through our bowels. After my surgery i too became very stressed and here i am now just out of the hospital with a ileostomy. have had Colitis for 8 yrs no flares till the surgery.
