Hello,

I am scheduled to have a strictureplasty next week and they may end up having to do a resection as well.

Does anybody have any input or advice?

Post op diet?

How long it took them to recover?

Painful?

Will I require a colostomy bag?

I am a 25 year old male and Ive never had surgery before.

Thanks!

I have had a resection before but never a structureplasty. For the resection, they got me up walking as soon as possible. They started me out on popsicles and I had to eat lightly at first. I didn't require a bag. Make sure you have things at the hospital that you enjoy doing. It was painful the first time I got up. Let us know how you are.

Thanks for the input.

How long were you in the hospital?

When were you able to go back to work? I'm hoping to get back in 2 weeks but I have the flexibility to be out 3 weeks if needed.

When were you able to start on harder foods again?

I went into the hospital at the end of March with pancreatitis. My resection had been scheduled for April 13th. They rescheduled it for April 6. I was released on April 22nd. That first weekend, after I was released, I started on a regular diet but couldn't eat a lot. I believe it was June when I returned to work. It took about two to three months before my stomach totally healed.

Wow that's crazy. How long ago did you have surgery?

I wonder if its a little more invasive today. I was under the impression I'd be in the hospital 2-3 days and back to work in 10-14 days depending on how I recover.

Six years ago. I was probably in the hospital a week before the surgery. I was in there early because of the pancreatitis.

Oh okay. That makes sense. I wonder if theyve made that much progress on surgery in 6 years to only have me in the hospital for 2-3 days.
