stupid doctor!

I got a colonoscopy on February 11th. I've been on Lialda, 4 pills a day because 2 wasn't enough to keep the D away, which is why he did the scope. So he does it and says yes inflammation in the large intestine and your ileum, lets start Humira. I said ok. He says we'll set it up and the pharmacy will call you. So two days ago I call for an update since the pharm never called. Nurse calls me today and says, "the doc says your colon is fine, you don't need humira, better to put it off as long as possible" I'm like what the hell? This is the second time this doctor has contradicted himself. Time for a new doctor!

I'm venting but I'm ok, really. I just started to a little flare with the spring pollen season but so far not too bad. This just goes to show you how much we have to be our own advocates.

That's the pits, really. Especially when he didn't have the courtesy to let you know. It's a shame some docs don't do courses in 'bedside manner' along with their medical training. Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better and I hope you can find a more thoughtful doctor.

Uhhhhhh what. Tell him you want your medical records. You can take the results somewhere else and get an opinion. It's ridiculous that he would give you conflicting information like that, so having the records will be definitive vs. his wishy washy brain.

The guy is daffy, they even sent me home from the scope with the big Humira information kit! lol On to the next doc. :)

p.s. thanks for the advice on taking my records, unfortunately this will be the second doctor's office I fired, so I already know the drill.

I agree that if possible, you should find a different doctor. That one sounds like a Loony Tunes!

The other thing I'd do is call back and CONFIRM what the story is - make sure the nurse wasn't looking at the wrong info.....for example - I called my ENT the other day to make an appointment, gave my name etc...then the secretary mentioned I have an appointment coming up...I said - ummm NO....WELL- she had 2 charts next to each other and was looking at the WRONG ONE!

paosbuff that is a good point. But this doctor has done this before and it was the doctor. When I first saw him I was on a prednisone taper and so he said come back in 3 weeks and we'll start you on humira. I asked him if that was necessary because I had not been on any maintenance meds before and the adverts say when all else fails. So he says, the thinking is use the best stuff as soon as you can to avoid scaring. Which made sense and I even asked on here and someone said that is what some people think. Then when I go back and he puts me on Lialda and says there is no need for Humira. I'm like well what about using the best stuff? and he says well lets just see if this works. The he tells me I need a scope every year before this latest, then after wards he says we should do one every two years. I can't take it, it just doesn't give one much confidence.

I would definitely find a new doctor. This guy can't make up his mind and that's the most troubling thing to me, that he doesn't have the confidence in his decision to stick with it.

Have you ever asked him about all the contradictions?
It all sounds bizarre and not at all helpful. It's bad enough being ill without having to keep track of all your GI has changed his mind about ;)
Good luck finding someone who can actually say what he means and means what he says!

Hi Amy, I'm doing ok so far. Spring pollen was always a trigger for me and I do notice some symptoms but things are much better than last year, this is when I started going down hill and was finally diagnosed. Hope you are doing ok!

Sam, I have an appointment with the new doctor in two weeks, so I'm just going to move on. btw, I have been taking a huge chewable multivitamin and a 5000 UI vitamin D for about a week now. Just to see if it helps with my overall energy levels and general health. So far I get pretty awesome heartburn but I'm not sure if it is helping otherwise. I know you've been trying to find some energy too. I hope your finding some success. You're so pretty in your avatar picture, I wish you all the best!
