Hey guys I have been looking into supplement since almost every one in my entourage strongly suggest me to take some along with fish oil. They suggested me supplement since I always feel tired and I have dark eyes under the eyes and when I feel not well they are worst! I have read that maybe its because I am lacking vitamins

I have done my research but I am still sceptical and kinda affraid to take extra pills.

I was wondering if any of you take either of these:

I was thinking of taking 1 of each per day:

http://www.xtend-life.com/product/Total_Balance_Unisex/Ingredients.aspx
http://www.xtend-life.com/product/Total_Balance_Unisex_premium/Ingredients.aspx

or taking these also 1 per day :

http://www.newchapter.com/fish-oil/wholemega#supplement-facts
http://www.newchapter.com/multi-vitamins/every-man#supplement-facts

or maybe these also 1 per day:

http://www.nutraorigin.com/products/omega_line/softgels/krill.shtml ( there is no omega 6 in this one according to the supplement facts at the bottom is that even possible? )
http://www.nutraorigin.com/products/vitamin_line/mt_man.shtml

I also found these wich cost less that I could take 1 per day :

THis one Men’s Living Green Liquid-Gel Multi that I would also take 1 per day :

And last one that I would also take 1 per day http://www.natureswaycanada.ca/Products/By-Type/Multivitamins/31555-Alive-Once-Daily-Mens.aspx

Wich one do you guys think is the best ? Is there brand more reputable?

Is there better multivitamin that are absorbed better or are like more checked by the FDA or whatever hehe? I was told to take centrum but I read its low price but really cheap and since we already don't absorb well I can't imagine taking something like that.

Thanks

They are really expensive and I am not sure if I would even absorb it and if these kind of stuff really work. Like wich multi vitamin and wich krill oil ( I saw on this forum that krill is the best? ) would be the best and absorb the best into my body?

Should I refrigerate my multivitamins and fish oil or even put it in the freezer for better conservation?

OH wow, you've thought about this a lot. I can't say that i can help you with your pill dilemma as I don't supplement with pill form. I am also not a fan of multivitamins because they typically aren't going to give you the levels of each vitamin that you need. If you are adamant about taking pills i would suggest buying each individual vitamin as typically they are better absorbed and contain higher/healthier levels. Also look into bilingual B12 as pill form of b12 will not do anything for you.

If you want the best absorbable way to attain vitamins i would personally suggest looking into juicing. Juicing is great because you get a super concentrated dose of a wide array of vitamins, minerals, and other food chemicals. If you are interested check out this thread.

Anyways, happy researching!

Ya I am reading your post right now I saw it after making my post really interesting I think I will try it as I don't eat any vegetable right now ( Low in fibre and residue diet ) I think it could be a good way to get these vitamins like you said and I could get a krill oil supplement for the omega 3 I guess ;p I am just not sure if I would like the taste I guess carrot juice can't be bad hehe.

Many juices are DELICIOUS i promise. Sure certain ones don't taste particularly good but do you want to satisfy your taste buds or feel better? :)

As for fish and krill oils, i've heard wonderful things about them. I simply don't trust the systems in which we deal with animal products so instead i take flax seed oil. Flax seed oil contains all the good omega 3 and 6's that the fish oils do while being a complete protein:) win win

Gianni

Go with the whole food vitamins. They are more expensive but your body can likely use them better since they are not isolates.

Vitamins do not occur in nature as isolates, but are combined with bioflavonoids and all the other things present in food.

Just off hand I noticed one of the vitamins in the links has magnesium oxide as an ingredient. This form of Mg is not very absorbable by the body.

I like Krill Oil myself, but any quality fish oil will do also.

Dan

Hey Dan, so you suggest me to go with newchapter? They claim to be whole food vitamins.

About omega ya I saw that Flax Seeds and Walnuts could be great I will try them when I am out of that diet ( flare )

I just did more research and these pills only give a small portion in mg of omega 3 not even near what you need per day like 2 grams and these pills gives like 100-150 miligram and you need 1000 to get to 1 gram lol....

The krill one I linked, I can't find any krill based pills that has significant amount of omega 3. The other one have really good amount like 600mg like this one http://www.luckyvitamin.com/p-16003...-fish-oil-concentrate-1000-mg-bonus-pack-100- or this one http://www.luckyvitamin.com/p-16706...-oil-1000-mg-600-mg-total-omega-3-90-softgels

So if I compare the same brand goodnnatural krill supplement http://www.luckyvitamin.com/p-167045-good-n-natural-krill-oil-1000-mg-60-softgels?redirect=1 with the other goodnnatural fish oil. Krill is like 9 times lower in omega 3 per pills!

why? The one I just linked says NOW Flax Seed Oil is unrefined and cold-pressed but what is the difference?

I agree if you do go the multivitamin route, chose a whole food one. Garden of Life, MegaFood are good brands for it. Omega 3s flax is good cheap option but if you don't mind spending a bit more check out chia seeds, I put a tablespoon in my water a day and drink. Helps bulk up your stool and keep you regular. Good source of soft fiber, omega 3's, protein, antioxidants, etc.

Allright after doing my research I came to the conclusion that I want to try something. I took the most natural stuff and reputable stuff according to what I read and the top seller tools on multiple website that sells vitamin to see what I would get. I am still sooo skeptical thats why I only took 24 pills of new chapter. For the oils I think I will take them now since its nothing chemical .

Here is what my rabbit test will consist of I will go see my doc and ask him for a presciption I was going to do it anyway to test my B12 level as suggested by allot of people here but I will also ask him to add more stuff wich I hope he will do. I will do it twice before and after and if he wants I would like to test a third time by keeping the same diet ( without the new chapter pills ) but adding juicing instead and see the difference in the vitamins and minerals levels in my blood. I will scan and post the paper result here for every one to see if my doctor give me the prescription of course since here in Canada you need one unless you want to pay a fortune it will be free.

Here is what I tought about getting tested, give me any suggestions if you think I should add more stuff but I think that is plenty hehe. Also I have no clue if all those stuff can be tested by blood test.

B12
Omega 3 ( DHA, EPA , ALA )
Omega 6
B9
Vitamin D
Vitamin K
Vitamin E
Vitamin A
Zinc
Magnesium
Calcium

The test will consist of 21 days of supplement. I will make a blood test at day 0 then I will start by taking 1 fish oil cap and 1 new chapter cap ( Even if they say get more I don't care I think 1 of each is plenty since we already eat stuff in our food and also I want to see if my level increase according to their fact sheet it should increase significantly just with 1 each.) The second day I will take 2 flax oil cap and 1 new chapter. Then the day 3 will be the same as day 1 and day 4 same as day 2 etc etc until day 21 which I will go make another blood test and see the result.

After that like a week later ( without taking any new chapter cap but I will continue taking the fish oil if I saw good result ) I will try to do juicing for 21 days and make another blood test.

Voila lets hope my doc is nice otherwise I will see if I can go to a private doctor if its not too expensive I am really curious. I will keep you guys up to date.

Here are the products I chose:

http://www.luckyvitamin.com/p-16003...-fish-oil-concentrate-1000-mg-bonus-pack-100- ( Top seller, No omega 6, lots of EPA and DHA and FDA approved lab and they got vitamin E which I read that good fish oil as it to keep it fresh longer)

http://www.luckyvitamin.com/p-647-now-foods-high-lignan-flax-oil-organic-non-ge-1000-mg-120-softgels ( top seller seems the most organic and cold pressed as suggested )

http://www.luckyvitamin.com/p-85598-new-chapter-every-mans-one-daily-24-tablets took this one because it says its wholefood was a top seller and iron free according to many website they are 1 of the big 3 wholefood cap seller. Took only 24 tablets because my test will last 21 days ( 3 weeks ) and if its crap I don't want to take crap for longer than 21 days lol.

Sounds real good Yannick.

I'm not entirely sure if you can test for omega 3's and 6's in the blood but then again i've never researched it or thought about it.

It seems like a good list of vitamins and minerals there. For the fun of it why not throw in an iron test:)

I did a similar thing when i started to first juice. It was a pain in the butt to get my doctor to agree to all the vitamins and minerals I wanted tested. I literally had to talk with him for an hour about it, it was crazy! Make sure you continue to demand you get them tested, if you demand it and say that you feel uncomfortable not knowing your levels then they must test them.

Anyways good luck. I'm excited to see the results. Please do keep us updated while you do it.

All the best

Gianni

Oh ya Iron test is a good idea haha thanks I forgot about it I keep saying I try to keep it low since I saw we need to keep it low I will add it up to the list ;) Also my optometrist told me to test my cholesterol which I have no clue why but she said she saw fat in my eyes lol and most of the time like 70% its because of cholesterol.

Oh and by the way I am currently in a small flare ( had a little opening which led to lots of bleeding but less worst than they first tough ) So ya I will wait about a month before doing that but anyway by the time I see the doc it should be fine I don't want to risk too much. Also my current diet consist of chicken, caned tuna, Turkey , white rice, white pasta , cooked carrots without skin, Banana, mozarella cheese, little bit of soy sauce and Mushroom sauce by campbell and boring 1 fiber white bread with the least Iron I found and also Liberty Greek vanilla yogourt lots of it.

Since I follow that I had no bleeding and no diarrhea so I might just continue to boring diet during my pills test since its really basic but I might add more veggies like sweet potato which I read they were really nutritious and can be fine without skin and cooked?

Also I found the value of the flax oil by searching for this brand that I bought on their main website. NOW Foods - High Lignan Flax Oil Organic Non-GE

Naturally occurring polyunsaturated fats and monounsaturated fats (example) (per serving)** % daily value
Linolenic Acid (Omega-3) . . . . . . . . . 7.7 g (55%)
Linoleic Acid (Omega-6) . . . . . . . . . . 2.0 g (14%)
Oleic Acid (Omega-9) . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.7 g (19%)
Other (Saturated) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1.6 g (12%)

which means if I take 2 instead of the suggested 3 caps which means id have to only calculate 66.33% of the value so omega 3 = 36.48% , I hate it but in flax oil there is omega 6 which I guess aint that bad in a low quantity we still need some in our body I guess. for the 2 caps ill only be taking 9,28% every 2 days. Also I will be getting some Omega 9 that I aint getting in the fish oil so.
