I am new to this site and have a few questions for you all.
First what supplements do you take? And where do you buy them?
Secondly, anyone drink coconut milk? I can't drink regular, and I have heard coconut is good for Crohn's.
Third, for the ladies out there, do you have bad flares during that TOM? And if you do, what can be done about it if anything?

Little about me: diagnosed in 05. Currently I can not afford to go back to the GI thanks to low pay and sucky health insurance. I have no energy by the time the work day is done and my home is suffering because of it. Thanks in advance!

Supplements that I take are fish oil, turmeric, vitamin K2, and vitamin D3. I take 6000ius of D3 a day to reach a testing level between 60 to 70ng/ml. Don't drink coconut milk but will sometimes eat coconut oil with meals. Hope you find some energy soon! Of the different supplements I take thought the D3 helped the most with increased energy.

I take Garden of Life supplements and I swear by them, however I have no insurance either :-( And feel tired all the time, but I can feel a diffrence with Garden of life. You can buy them on line or Whole foods. I take the womens mulit. It has probiattics and they are raw.

I used to take a handful of vitamins at night before bed. Now, my friend turned me onto Green Vibrance, and I LOVE it. My BM's are normal, and I no longer struggle with multiple ones throughout the day. Plus, I have sustained energy and it balances my stomach (because of all the probiotics). I also put Alow Vera juice in whatever I drink with the green vibrance. Someone I talked to at Whole Foods told me L-Glutamine is supposed to be great as well for the intestines and repairing them.

I used to get bad flares when Aunt Flo would come to town, but I don't get Aunt Flo anymore (due to my Birth Control - completely normal according to my doctor!). But I do remember getting more flares around that time.

Hi Amberaut! Welcome to the forum! There are so many resources here, but mostly there is an amazing amount of support here from us fellow Crohnnies!

Sorry to hear about the insurance issue, been there and doing that too! Its probably just as well because I've pretty much been on everything and nothing helped at all, with the exception of surgery (not much of a treatment for the rest of my body though-yup).
Personally I take Juice Plus capsules and Juice Plus complete- and in the 8 months that I've been taking it my symptoms have just about gone- WooHoo! I'm talking about cutting the BM's in half, no cramping, lots and lots of ENERGY! and on and on! I was pretty skeptical about any help with crohns, then I figured on a fluke I would try it, and Voila! My body was so nutritionally depleted because any food I ate, my intestines didn't absorb it. Now, because of the way its made, I absorb all the nutrients, and the bonus is that all my vitamin levels way up. Before crohns I ate really well, allot of fruits, veggies, etc. Post crohns I havn't even been able to look (longingly-lol) at fresh fruits or veggies.
Insure did help a little with energy, but increased the BM's- ugh!
I hope this helps you, and I hope you feel better! Hang in there, and remember, we have crohns but crohns doesn't have us! LOL!
Take care!

The success that you are having with Juice Plus is the same that i'm having with Green Vibrance! I'm so happy that you're feeling better!

I currently take a weight gainer 3 times daily along with vitamins, creatine, amino acids and zma throughout the day. Is this too many supplements?please give me any suggestion..........

Everyone is different. I had a friend in High School who couldn't eat any seeds or she would get severe inflammation. Everyone is different - but I would probably stop taking that supplement, because flax and what not is very high in fiber - something most chronies can't handle.

i think you may be right - took some yesterday morning and this morning and definitely am worse so I better stop them. Any of you ever try manuka honey? I tried that before too and I used to feel better on it because it increased appetite but i did find the bleeding gets worse - is that because manuka honey is good for immune system i wonder?

I currently take a GNC multi-vit, GNC fish oil, GNC aloe vero pills, and GNC liquid B-12, along with boost, and plenty of water. Plenty of fresh fruits, but no grapefruits or oranges. My energy levels are the best in years, had small bowel res in Feb this year. I wake up at 440 am, and feel great all day! plenty of exercise and mtn bike rides as often as I can of 20-70 miles at a time. Good luck, Billy

I am going to start taking spatone iron sachets today and see how i get on with them. it says to take with vitamin c so i have mixed it with rubex! I cycle alot am part of a local cycling group so it am getting a bit of exercise but really want something to give an energy boost so hopefully those supplements will help. have tried taking iron before but can't with the cramps but my dr told me to try spatone it suppose to be gentle.

I don't take any supplements but swear by eggs ! if it wasnt for them i don't know where or what i'd be

Thanks everyone. I am checking into to some of these vitamins. The Garden of Life range between $30-$50 from what I can find. That's a little high for a "test run" but I am gonna try them.
And an update- I have been doing better. I have almost cut out dairy. I haven't been able to drink milk for many years, but I finally bought almond milk and I love it. I can actually drink a whole glass without getting sick! It's a happy time at my house. I haven't been having as many trips to the bathroom, and my pain has went from being an 8-9 on a scale of ten, to a 4-5. I have had a few rough moments here and there, but overall doing better.
I started taking fish oil again, I can only handle two a day. But the problem I have is that they don't always digest. You all can imagine how I discovered that! lol.
Currently taking flintstones chewable vitamins a few times a week.

If anything, i've read that probiotics are going to be your best bet for immunity. That's why I take "Green Vibrance." The levels of probiotics do wonders for my immunity and overall stomach/feeling in my intestines. They're not probiotics that you can find in yogurt, and i've noticed that my BM's have significantly decreased during the day. Plus, practically all of your immunity comes from your stomach/intestines, which is why it's best to take vitamins that target those areas. i.e. Green Vibrance (as long as you're not allergic to anything in it), L-Glutamine, Fish Oil, Aloe Vera, etc.

:) Hope this helps.

I get all my supplements prescribed by the naturopath, and so I buy them from her.

She has a “Practitioners Only Range”, which is of a very high potency and quality level.

You may pay a bit more price wise but they work because the quality is there. Also, the “Practitioners Only Range”, has been properly tested and the are 100% pure.

Many of the cheap supplements you can buy online are actually bad for your health, as they can contain cheap fillers.

I don't drink tinned coconut milk or bottled coconut water.

But I do extract the coconut water from a Thai young drinking coconut every day and drink that. You just whack the top with a sharp heavy meat cleaver, very easy.

The electrolytes, vitamins and minerals in coconut water are exceptionally good for people with Crohns and Ulcerative Colitis.

But that is direct from young coconuts - avoid water from the old brown hairy coconuts.

Also avoid tinned and bottled coconut water. Fresh is the only way to go for the many health benefits.

I drink the coconut water immediately upon opening.

Unlike the lady in the video, I never store it, as the flavour changes.

The more it is exposed to air, the more it oxidises, so drinking it straight away is best.

I sometimes use the coconut "meat" blended up in my smoothies.

Here is a good video that shows you how to open them:
