Sorry this has taken so long I have been SO SO ill.... my surgery was last Tuesday the 17th at 7:30am it took the drs well over 6 hours :( the surgeon came out and told my husband just like all the other organ issues I had my colon was HUGE .....

He said the rectum and anal canal is 135 cm. (4 ft. 6 in. ) in the female, and 140 cm. (4 ft. 8 in.) in the male.

he said mine was almost 9 feet long and very wide :ymad: why am I not surprised....
Same thing I hear about everything my torso is the size of a child's but my organs are over sized. So I have the 3 inch incision to get the colon out the other holes for the instruments and the 1 inch drain hole which I still have the drain tube in now :(

I had the drain tube down my nose to my stomach until Friday and man is my nose a mess looks like I was in a boxing match lol...
The surgery went well but was very hard on me I have lost 10 more lbs I am now 89lbs the draining is awful and I ended up back int he ER 8 hours today over the drain, they had to restitch it yesterday and the pain is so bad so they gave me morphine and then 4 shots of numbing needles in the wound to try and numb it a few days doc says he can not take it out while all this blood and drain is draining in my abdomen. I came home LATE Saturday but had to beg the nurses sucked @ the hospital and would never even come when I called for up to a hour so I knew I would be much better off @ home with my hubby and boys

So all that being said then there is my stoma well not sure how I feel yet I have cried .... I have laughed and I have yelled :rof: I have all ready had major leak issues and I am so weak right now the emptying 3-4 times a day sucks.
I am having terrible terrible AIR/GAS issues and I dont mean smelly or my bag filling up I mean PAIN it hurts bad goes up to my chest my back all over my stomach the ER did a CT scan today to make sure I had no blood clots they can see the air PLEASE PLEASE tell me this is not permanent my surgeon said he doesnt know I am not sure I can take this air pain for ever:confused2:

I am praying things get better we have a nurse coming tomorrow to work on my supply's coming my hubby seems tired and is being a huge trooper with the middle of the night mishaps I love my men
I hope you are all well and ANY help or info would be so so nice right now.

Wow! You've certainly been through a lot, you poor thing! I hope that this surgery ends up making a positive difference for you. I don't know the answers to your question but wanted to chime in and wish you well.

*hugs*

Oh my gosh, you've been through so much! I wish I could provide some good reassurance. One thing I can assure you about at least is the gas will go away. I literally suffered the way you are with that. My whole body was strained, puffed out like a balloon with all the trapped gas, and I walked like a hunchback because of it. The surgery team kept assuring me that because you body has been opened up and exposed to the atmosphere, gas WILL get trapped when they close you up. It took about 2 weeks for it all to get it all out, but that was rough. The worst part is there is no med they can give to relieve it or help it move along.

So good luck!! Slowly but surely, things will start to work themselves out. Have a restful healing

Yes I agree the gas pain was dreadful but it will shift when your more mobile, the first couple of weeks post surgery are rough good luck

My first two weeks were horrendous too.
The gas/heartburn was agonizing and would keep me awake for hours every night after about 2am. It left me exhausted, along with the never ending nausea. Nothing gave me relief.
I turned a corner late in the second week and it is only now - well in to week three that I feel human again. I'm still incredibly weak and have a long way to go.

Just hang in there. You will feel better.

THANKS.... all the drain tube pain was back by 4am man I wish I had morphine @ home.... I do not want to keep going back to the ER :( thanks again.

SORRY , I just now realized there were more post THANK YOU SO SO MUCH to hear that others had gas pains and they did go away has made my day I am so grateful just to hear there is a chance. The weird part is you cant see the gas in me I am so tiny and no swelling except my hands and face did in the beginning. But I am only 89lbs.... weight is so hard to get on yet. But the gas is showing in the cat scan or air bubbles trapped they called it :( and my surgeon thinks this drain tube is doing it as well when I empty pushing more air in? Thank you all much love <3

Hang in there! You'll get used to having the stoma, the first month is a bit awkward, but after a while you won't even know it's there. Get some free samples from the ostomy companies and try them all out. They're very good on the phone about trying to get the right product for you, so you shouldn't have leaks. Check out our little club over in the stoma subforum - there's lots of good info over there.

Good luck to you! I hope the gas pain goes away for you soon. Take it easy and try to relax, you'll be better off in the end if you do :)
