I haven't had any surgery yet so I can't give you any words of wisdom wih that, only to make sure you pack everything you could possibly need in hospital it's a pain when you don't have everything you need and the hospital shops can be so expensive. Also wanted to wish you all the best and a speedy recovery. X

Hi what you getting done? I know what you are going through I've too go see surgeon in three weeks then get put on waiting list for this next op:(:( I'm so scared:( thinking of you and hope it goes well and you make a speedy recovery keep us posted x

Hi warge. I've been where you are. 2 years ago I had surgery to remove my terminal illeum, about 2.5 ft of the small intestine and 6 inches of the colon around it. What kind of surgery are you having? Is is laproscopic or open surgery? I would be glad to give you suggestions in how to prepare.

Hey Warge
It's good you dont have too long to wait. And being emotional is completely natural. I had a complete wobbly in the reception area waiting to go in for the anaesthesia. I couldn't stop crying and thought I might chicken out. They were all very sympathetic and calmed me down. If it gets really bad you can ask for a pre-med, though they prefer not to give one these days.
Tips:
1) Nighties are better than PJs for after the op, or just wear the gowns they can give you. And take slippers with a good grip on the bottom of them
2) Getting up and moving around after the op will help get rid of the wind you get from them pumping up your stomach. Also helps to wake your bowel up
3) Take a notebook and pen and write down any questions you want to ask the docs when they come round. I'd have them in my head, then forget to ask them
Easier said than done, but try not to worry too much. I am doing really well post op and feeling better than I have done in ages.

Warge its perfectly natural to feel emotional and scared because it is a big op with a long recovery but all I can say is that the really bad bit is the first 24 hours and it just gets easier and easier after that. Have as many pain meds as you need, there are no awards for toughing it out and they help you get moving which helps speed the recovery. All the best and try not to worry too much, Anna

it is 10th nov, hopefully when i get out i will be able to let everyone know how it went

it is funny how because i am on immuno suppresants due to allergies the doctors do not understand

Hi Warge
That's what I was wondering about. Did you have your appointment with the anaesthetist? What did they say? I was on Azathioprine and they took me off it before the surgery. Still waiting for a post op follow up appointment to see if I have to go back on any meds.

He didnt say a lot. He was only bothered about me already being on immuno suppresants but did not tell me to stop taking any tablets. That was the only one he was concerned about and how i reacted to anaesthetic - i told him it makes be violently sick and the last time i had uncontrolable shaking. I did forget to mention that they had problems keeping my blood pressure static. I have been taking immuno suppresants for 5 + years now for allergies.

I think he was surprised that I did not have any questions for him as i had so many for my gastro doctor. I suppose after all the procedures i have had I know what to expect to a certain degree.

Here's hoping it all goes well only tomorrow then a go in and have it done. I will (when I can) post on here how it went for me.

Hope you have a great surgery and speedy recovery. Scheduling my surgery soon. Update when you can.:)

Thank you all for your good wishes it is nice to know that there are people own there that you can count on:)

Hi everyone

Just been to the Specialist as the Pathology results are back. It is definitely Crohns and nothing else, thank goodness. The Crohns was not active which made it easier for the surgeon to sort out, he was pleased that it was so easy. Hopefully now i will be in remission for a long time:) The infection site should be better in a couple of weeks as well.

Next time i go it will be back to the gastro Doc for him to look after me. I can now look forward to normal food again:)

Thank you everyone for your support, I am so pleased that I found some really wonderfulpeople.
