After a few months of flare, my wife is in for surgery now. If all goes well, she'll come out in a while without her sigmoid colon.

The surgeon is trying to do laproscopy, but isn't sure if it will work. After all the tests, we're not 100% sure of the extent of the damage or how far he will need to go to find healthy tissue.

She's had a lot of swelling, although she's had a month or so after being released from the hospital last time to let things calm down. If the swelling is still too bad, she may end up with a bag for a while, but hopefully we can avoid it.

We'll know soon. Geez. It's a rough ride sometimes.

I have had two resections and the first was laproscopic, but the second open. If she get can get it Laproscopically done it would be less invasive, however it is best to get all they can, like they say til they see healthy tissue, NO one wants to go for more surgery than they have too. It could be the best thing for her. You are a saint for coming on here for her. Sometimes they dont know what they will find when they get there.

Keep us posted on how she is doing, hugs to you both! ((hug))

thanks, Pen.
everything went better than expected. She ended up having 7-8inches of her sigmoid removed with laprocopic surgery -- no ostomy, no bag, no complications. The surgeon said it was a "real mess" in there, with all the fistula tissue, but he got it all, got tissue that was healthy to reconnect and is confident about her recovery.
Now it's about resting and healing and hoping the Crohn's doesn't flare again.

So happy she made it through and no bag, I had that scare the first time let alone the second. Mine was a mess too, then they wonder why we were in agony.

Even with surgery she still should be on something for maintenace as she most times infections can set in. Her doctor should be telling you about this. Keep us posted, hope she is not in alot of pain... is she on morphine or epidural or both?

Thanks Pen,
She's on dilaudid now. They will switch her to oral pain meds today.
We talked her meds over with her GI. She will be going back on Cimzia shortly. She's not taking her Azocol but will start soon. And then he'll probably put her on Methotrexade.

Her pain is bearable so far.
