So I've always had normal periods. From a 26-28 day cycle. 4-7 days long. Always started out very, very heavy-went on this way for 2-3 days-then got lighter and ended normally.

So I had surgery on the 14th of January. Right after I got out of the hospital (I was there for 7 days, yuck!) I got my period 2 weeks early.

Now it's February-I was 13 days late for my period this month. Not only was I late-but I only had spotting for about 2 days. Then it stopped all together for 2 more days. Now, I just went to the bathroom and it's so heavy!

I am not sexually active-trust me, I have no wanted to on all this friggin medication! I don't take anything different.

Anyone else had this problem before? It is normal after surgery for your period to be weird? I really don't want ANOTHER problem! Bleh!

I don't personally have any experience with this, but it makes sense to me that surgery could do that. Any sort of stress, emotional or physical, can mess with your cycle.

Skim over the list of possible causes for irregular periods here: http://women.webmd.com/tc/missed-or-irregular-periods-topic-overview A lot of things can cause irregular periods!

Unless it continues for several months, I doubt it's anything other than the stress of surgery. It might be worth mentioning to your doctor or GYN if you get a chance, though.

 I hope things get better soon!

Hi Ali,

Surgery and anesthesia can mess up your cycle big time. The last 3 surgeries I had, I was due for my period and even had it during the 1 surgery but then it stopped the same day & was absent for 2 months and resumed normally.

Your body just went through some major stress--your abdomen was cut open---gas/anesthesia was pumped into your system and your body had to react to it and it affected everything from your hair, gut, and even your cycle.

Don't worry and if you have cramps, take regular tylenol or if it's really bad, take your pain medication that was prescribed until your cycle is done. Mine were so bad that I could only take a narcotic for 5 days and then I was fine.

PM me if you have any other questions. hugs to you!! :)
